World of Warcraft: Midnight continues the Worldsoul Saga by shifting the conflict from Azeroth’s deepest caverns back to the surface. With Xal’atath now launching a full assault on the Sunwell, the battle between Void and Light escalates to a new level. The expansion introduces massive class updates, a new Demon Hunter specialization, rebuilt zones, fully-featured player housing, and a fresh endgame ecosystem.
Midnight brings players face-to-face with the Void’s attempt to corrupt one of Azeroth’s most sacred sources of power. The story places Blood Elves, the Sunwell, and Silvermoon City at the center of the conflict, with Xal’atath emerging as a dominant threat.
While Blizzard has not confirmed a final launch date, early 2026 is the widely expected release window.
At gamescom 2025, the main cinematic showcased Xal’atath’s push toward the Sunwell, defended fiercely by Lor’themar Theron and Lady Liadrin.
A full gameplay trailer followed at the same event, highlighting revamped zones, Dungeon previews, and the new Devourer Demon Hunter spec in action.
Midnight arrives with some of the largest system updates since Dragonflight. Here’s an overview of what players can expect:
Every class receives 10 new talent points, distributed as:
Apex Talents sit at the bottom of each spec tree and function as major capstone choices. These nodes amplify key abilities and provide spec-defining bonuses.
The Midnight pre-patch adds a third Demon Hunter specialization: Devourer — a mid-range, Void-infused DPS spec with a hybrid melee/ranged toolkit. The spec leans heavily into cosmic Void themes, blending mobility, soul-fragment manipulation, and purple-toned spell effects.
Devourer shares the Scarred Hero Tree with Havoc and gains an additional Annihilator Hero Tree shared with Vengeance.
For the first time, Void Elves can become Demon Hunters, beginning with the Midnight pre-patch.
Midnight launches with four core zones, combining revamped classics with entirely new worlds:
Recovering from past Scourge damage, this revitalized landscape features Lightbloom overgrowth, Void cultists, and returning Amani troll threats.
The famous raid becomes a full zone, expanding into ancestral troll lands filled with crypts, mountains, wildlife, and the legacy of Zul’jin’s lineage.
Home to the Haranir, this primordial fungal jungle is built around World Tree roots and bioluminescent ecosystems.
A chaotic Void world where gravity shifts unpredictably, creatures consume one another, and Nexus Points distort reality.
Silvermoon City has been completely remodeled to match modern WoW city design. It now supports flying, with two-thirds of the city open to all players and the remaining third retaining Horde exclusivity.
Player Housing opens in a limited form during War Within Patch 11.2.7, but the full system launches with Midnight. Players will be able to:
The Haranir become a playable Allied Race in Midnight. This bioluminescent race features plant-infused designs, animated effects, and becomes unlockable through the max-level campaign.
Midnight releases with three raids:
Led by Astalor Bloodsworn, the Prey System introduces opt-in hunts across Midnight’s zones. Players track elite targets, fight through ambushes, and select from escalating difficulty tiers. Rewards include:
Players can explore 10 new Delves at launch, alongside a Nemesis Delve. Valeera Sanguinar replaces Brann Bronzebeard as the companion, offering a stealth-driven dynamic.
Midnight ships with eight new dungeons, including reworked wings of Magister’s Terrace:
