Some of these items are easy to overlook because they come from old dungeons and raids. However, they can provide useful advantages during Phase 3 encounters, making them worth farming before your guild starts pushing Black Temple and Hyjal.

Mark of the Illidari and Shattrath Flasks

One of the most important Phase 3 preparations is farming Mark of the Illidari.

Phase 3 introduces special Shattrath Flasks that can be purchased from vendors in the Aldor and Scryer banks for 1 Mark of the Illidari each. These flasks are considerably cheaper than buying traditional raid flasks from the Auction House, making Marks particularly valuable for raiders.

There is one important catch. You need to be Exalted with The Sha'tar, Cenarion Expedition, and either The Aldor or The Scryers before you can purchase the flasks. Your Aldor or Scryer choice determines which faction's vendor you use.

Shattrath Flasks

The Shattrath Flasks are designed specifically for TBC's 25-player raid content. Their effects work in Tempest Keep, Serpentshrine Cavern, Mount Hyjal, Black Temple, and Sunwell Plateau.

This makes them particularly valuable once Phase 3 opens. Instead of spending large amounts of gold on traditional flasks for every raid, you can convert the Marks you collect from raid trash into the appropriate Shattrath Flask.

How to Prepare for Shattrath Flasks

Sulfuron Slammer

Sulfuron Slammer is purchased from Plugger Spazzring in the Grim Guzzler inside Blackrock Depths.

Using it deals 4 Fire damage to your character every 3 seconds for 6 seconds. That sounds like a terrible effect until you understand why players are stocking them for Phase 3.

The damage can be used to break Anetheron's Sleep during the Hyjal Summit encounter. The item therefore has a very specific purpose, but it is worth having in your bags if your raid expects to progress through Hyjal.

You do not need a huge stockpile. A small supply is enough to cover the encounter and replace any that you use.

Stratholme Holy Water

Stratholme Holy Water is another old item that can become useful in Phase 3.

Several Phase 3 encounters involve Undead enemies, including encounters in Hyjal Summit and Black Temple. Holy Water deals area damage to Undead enemies, giving it a niche use during trash and certain encounters.

There is one important limitation: using Stratholme Holy Water puts your Super Sapper Charge on a one-minute cooldown. Keep that interaction in mind if your raid relies heavily on Sappers for damage.

Wail of the Banshee

Wail of the Banshee drops from Baroness Anastari in Stratholme's Undead side.

The item reduces an enemy's chance to hit by 10% for 12 seconds and has three charges. It can also fizzle against enemies above level 60, so it is not a universally reliable raid tool. Even so, the effect can be useful in specific situations and makes the item worth knowing about for Phase 3 preparation.

Because the item has three charges, you can get multiple uses from a single drop before needing to return to Stratholme.

Elixir of Demonslaying

Elixir of Demonslaying is another Classic consumable that deserves attention from melee players.

It increases your Attack Power against Demons, making it particularly relevant to Phase 3 encounters where players face Demon enemies.

This is more of a class and encounter-specific preparation item than a universal requirement. You should not replace your normal raid consumable setup without checking your class, role, and encounter strategy first.

For melee DPS players, however, it is worth having a supply available for encounters where its bonus applies. Current Phase 3 preparation resources specifically highlight Elixir of Demonslaying as an important option for melee DPS.

Legacy Trinkets Worth Farming

Some of the most interesting Phase 3 preparation items come from content that is several expansions old.

You may need to convince your guild to return to Classic raids, but two trinkets in particular are worth knowing about.

Mark of the Champion

The Phylactery of Kel'Thuzad drops from Kel'Thuzad in Naxxramas and starts the quest that rewards Mark of the Champion. The trinket has different versions for melee and caster characters.

The melee version provides 150 Attack Power against Undead, while the caster version provides up to 85 spell damage against Undead.

There are also situations where the trinket can provide value against Demons, making it relevant to parts of TBC endgame content.

The important preparation step is therefore getting back into Naxxramas and obtaining the Phylactery if your character can benefit from the resulting trinket.

Petrified Scarab

The Petrified Scarab comes from the Bug Trio encounter in Ahn'Qiraj.

There is a specific trick to obtaining it. When fighting the Bug Trio, Lord Kri must be killed last for the item to have a chance to drop.

The trinket grants 100 Spell Resistance for one minute, with the bonus decreasing by 10 each time a hostile spell lands on you. It has a three-minute cooldown.

This makes it particularly interesting for encounters where reducing incoming spell damage matters. It has been highlighted as a useful defensive option for the Illidan Stormrage encounter in Black Temple.

What Should You Farm Before TBC Phase 3?

You do not need to spend every evening farming old Classic content. Prioritize the items that are relevant to your class, role, and raid group.

High Priority

Finish your reputation requirements. If you are not Exalted with The Sha'tar, Cenarion Expedition, and Aldor or Scryers, this should be one of your first goals.

Save Mark of the Illidari. These Marks become valuable once you can exchange them for Shattrath Flasks.

Maintain your normal raid consumable stock. Specialized Phase 3 items are useful, but they do not replace the basic consumables required for progression.

Situational Priority

Sulfuron Slammer is worth picking up for Hyjal preparation, particularly if your raid expects everyone who needs it to carry one.

Stratholme Holy Water can be useful for Undead-heavy content, although you need to consider its interaction with Super Sapper Charge.

Wail of the Banshee is a niche option with limited charges and a chance to fizzle against higher-level targets.

Talk with your raid leader before spending a large amount of gold on niche preparation items.
