WoW Classic+: Warcraft Forever Explained | Release Date
World of Warcraft: Forever Announced: Everything Coming to Classic+
Blizzard has officially revealed the next major chapter for World of Warcraft Classic, and it is not another historical expansion. At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Forever, an expanded level 60 Classic experience that will allow players to remain in Azeroth while discovering new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, classes, races and stories. The new experience launches on November 4, with a beta beginning shortly after the announcement.
World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's answer to one of the biggest questions surrounding Classic WoW. What happens when players love the original Vanilla experience but do not want to leave it behind and continue into another expansion? According to Blizzard, many players wanted to continue into The Burning Crusade and beyond, while another part of the community wanted to stay with the original version of Azeroth. Forever is being created specifically for that audience.
The concept developed over several years. Blizzard explained that the Classic team did not originally have the development capability to create a constantly expanding version of Vanilla Azeroth. Season of Discovery eventually became an important experiment, allowing Blizzard to test how much new content could be introduced before the experience stopped feeling like Classic. By the middle of 2024, the team had concluded that the idea was not only technically possible, but compelling enough to pursue as a permanent experience rather than another temporary season.

A New Direction for Classic WoW
World of Warcraft: Forever is built around the idea of staying in Azeroth. Instead of increasing the level cap with every major content release and eventually making previous gear and achievements obsolete, Blizzard wants players to continue developing their level 60 characters inside an expanding version of the original world.
The developers repeatedly emphasized that the world itself is the most important part of Forever. Players will be able to discover locations that were never fully explored, investigate unfinished stories and experience new quests and rewards throughout the entire leveling journey. Leveling is not being treated as something that players simply rush through on the way to endgame. It remains one of the central parts of the experience.
Blizzard is also deliberately avoiding several systems that became important in later versions of World of Warcraft. There will be no flying mounts and no level scaling. Azeroth is intended to remain dangerous, and preparation, exploration and cooperation should continue to matter. The goal is not to make every encounter artificially difficult, but to encourage players to think about where they are going and how they approach the world.
The result is intended to be a long-term Classic home rather than another temporary progression cycle. Blizzard's approach to catching up with the rest of the playerbase is also intentionally simple: play the game. Your time spent exploring, leveling, gearing and completing content is supposed to remain meaningful.
Over 1,000 New Quests and New Zones
World of Warcraft: Forever will significantly expand the original Azeroth with more than 1,000 new quests, new and expanded zones, new dungeons and new raids. Blizzard is using these additions to explore parts of the Warcraft world that received little attention during original Vanilla.
One of the major new zones is Mount Hyjal. Players already know the importance of Mount Hyjal from Warcraft lore, but Forever will explore what happened after Archimonde's defeat. The zone is designed as an endgame leveling area with new quests, reputations, rewards and both solo and group activities. Mount Hyjal will also contain one of the entrances to the new Barrow Deeps raid, while players looking for a larger challenge will eventually be able to enter the Hyjal Summit raid.
Another major addition is The Riverglades, a new frontier region built around grasslands, settlements and trading routes. Humans, orcs, ogres and other inhabitants will occupy the region, and its story is deliberately different from the traditional Warcraft narrative of stopping another world-ending threat. Instead, players will experience what it is like to live and operate within Azeroth itself.
The Riverglades will contain more than 150 quests designed for characters between levels 30 and 45, along with new reputations and rewards. A neutral Goblin port will also provide expanded travel routes, while a new dungeon gives players another option during this part of the leveling experience instead of repeatedly running the same familiar dungeons.
The Skyborn Race and Zephras Isle
One of the most surprising additions to Forever is a completely new playable race called the Skyborn. The Skyborn are described as elemental hybrids and will have their own starting experience on Zephras Isle, covering levels 1 through 12.
The Skyborn are not a neutral race. Players will choose either the Horde or Alliance from the beginning. Both factions can use the Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid classes, while Horde Skyborn can also become Shamans and Alliance Skyborn can become Mages.
The introduction of an entirely new race is a major departure from the original Vanilla experience. Rather than simply recreating the game exactly as it existed in 2004, Blizzard is using Forever as an opportunity to explore new characters and stories while attempting to maintain the atmosphere and gameplay principles that made Classic popular.
Nine New Dungeons
Forever will introduce nine new dungeons across different level ranges, giving players more reasons to explore the world while leveling and at level 60.
One of the most recognizable locations is Dalaran. Following the events of Warcraft III, the city had been concealed, but that barrier has now come down. Although Dalaran has been restored, the Kirin Tor still have problems to solve, and players between levels 20 and 35 will enter the city as a dungeon to help deal with the situation.
Lordaeron is another major dungeon location. The city has been left in ruins, with Scourge forces still occupying parts of the area. Horde characters around levels 15 to 20 will be able to fight to reclaim the city, although Alliance players may also find a way inside.
Alliance players will also be able to enter the Hall of Thanes, where they have been called upon to protect ancient treasures. Horde players, naturally, may have different plans for those treasures.
Other new dungeons include the Excavation Site in the Wetlands, The Drowned City, an ancient troll ruin located off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, and several higher-level dungeons including Alcaz Island Prison, The Shaper's Terrace, Krol'Dok Stronghold and Blackmaw Hold. The higher-level locations are designed for characters between levels 40 and 60.
New Raids for 10 and 20 Players
Forever will also expand Classic raiding with new encounters designed for different group sizes.
The first announced raid is Barrow Deeps, a 10-player raid with three entrances located throughout the world. One of those entrances can be found in Mount Hyjal. The raid is connected to the Night Elves and contains dangerous prisoners, including a particularly infamous character whose presence could create major problems for players.
The second announced raid is Hyjal Summit, which requires 20 players. Blizzard has also explained that Forever's content roadmap will work alongside the original Classic raid schedule, meaning new raids will not necessarily replace existing content. For example, the 20-player Hyjal Summit will launch alongside the original 40-player Onyxia's Lair, giving players different group sizes and activities to choose from.
This approach is important because Forever is not being designed around one single endgame activity. Blizzard wants the game to support different types of players, including dungeon groups, smaller raid teams, larger raid groups and PvP players.
New Items, Tier Sets and Legendary Quests
New content naturally brings new rewards. Blizzard has confirmed hundreds of new items for Forever, including equipment with special on-use effects designed to give players additional tactical options.
Existing items will also be updated. Some pieces will become stronger, more distinctive or more useful, meaning that older equipment will not necessarily become irrelevant simply because new content has been introduced.
Players will also have new legendary quests and tier sets to pursue. These systems give characters long-term progression without requiring the level cap to increase.
The idea is fundamentally different from the traditional expansion model. Instead of moving from level 60 to level 70 and eventually replacing everything again, players will continue building their characters within the same level 60 environment.
Undead Paladins Are Coming
Perhaps the most unexpected announcement from the Warcraft Forever cinematic was the reveal of Undead Paladins. Blizzard confirmed the new race and class combination during the launch trailer, making it one of the most talked-about features of the announcement.
The combination is particularly notable because Paladins have historically been closely associated with the Holy Light, while the Forsaken have traditionally had a very different relationship with the Light. Forever gives Blizzard the opportunity to explore that concept within its expanded version of Azeroth.
Undead Paladins are also a clear example of how Forever is approaching Classic+. Blizzard wants to preserve the identity of the original game while being willing to introduce concepts that were never available during Vanilla.
Paladins as a whole are receiving additional attention. Blizzard has announced a new tanking seal, more group healing options and a broader set of tools for Retribution. Class design is moving away from talents that provide tiny statistical increases and toward choices that have a more noticeable impact on gameplay.
Updated Classes and Racial Abilities
Class design is being expanded across Forever, with Blizzard aiming to make individual classes feel more distinctive. The goal is not simply to make every class follow the same formula, but to give players meaningful decisions that affect how their characters play.
Racial abilities are also being updated so that races feel more unique and recognizable. Blizzard has indicated that more information about these changes will be provided during its dedicated deep-dive presentations.
This could become one of the more important aspects of Forever because the Classic experience has always placed significant emphasis on the identity of individual races and classes. The new systems need to add depth without removing the character that made the original game distinctive.
A New Profession: Camping
Forever will also introduce a completely new profession called Camping.
The profession is focused on social interaction and tradeskills. Players will be able to establish campsites in the open world where other players can gather, communicate and use their tradeskills to provide collaborative buffs.
This is another feature that fits directly into Blizzard's stated philosophy for Forever. The game is supposed to encourage players to spend time in the world instead of treating Azeroth as a collection of locations they simply travel through on the way to an objective.
Camping could therefore become an interesting addition for players who enjoy the social side of Classic WoW and want more reasons to interact with other characters outside cities, dungeons and raids.
Account-Wide Legacy Progression
The 1-60 leveling experience remains at the center of Forever, and Blizzard is introducing a legacy system for players who enjoy leveling multiple characters.
The system will provide additional perks for players who invest time into multiple characters, giving alt-focused players another form of long-term progression.
This does not mean that individual characters become irrelevant. Instead, the legacy system is intended to reward players who repeatedly experience the world and build different characters.
For players who enjoy leveling alts, this could make the Classic 1-60 journey much more rewarding over the long term.
Optional Transmog
Transmog has always been one of the most controversial subjects whenever Classic+ is discussed. Some players enjoy being able to customize the appearance of their characters, while others believe that visible equipment is an important part of Classic's identity.
Blizzard's solution in Forever is to make transmog optional.
Players can choose whether to enable it. Those who want the traditional Classic experience can keep it disabled, while players who want more visual customization can use the system.
This allows Blizzard to accommodate both groups without forcing one approach onto everyone.
Classic and Enhanced Graphics
Forever will also provide players with control over the game's visual presentation.
Blizzard believes the Classic art style remains timeless and does not want to replace it completely. Instead, the developers are enhancing environmental effects and providing toggleable visual options.
Players will be able to switch between HD and SD graphics for characters, models and the world. Enhanced effects include improvements to elements such as rivers, fog and moonlight while retaining the recognizable appearance of Classic Azeroth.
The intention is therefore enhancement rather than a complete visual redesign.
New PvP Content
PvP players will receive new content alongside the expanded PvE experience.
One of the most notable additions is The Darkspear Islands, a new 15-versus-15 battleground. The battleground combines ideas from existing Classic PvP locations, including strategic capture points inspired by Arathi Basin and an overall structure comparable to Eye of the Storm.
The original battlegrounds will also receive updates, while Forever will introduce a broader PvP system and seasonal refreshes as the game continues to develop.
This means PvP will not simply be an additional feature attached to the PvE roadmap. Blizzard is treating it as one of the major pillars of the ongoing Forever experience.
Riding Updates and Gamepad Support
Forever will also introduce several quality-of-life improvements without abandoning its Classic foundation.
Riding skills will receive updates, while gamepad support will be added. These changes are designed to improve accessibility and usability without fundamentally changing how players interact with the world.
The same philosophy can be seen throughout the project. Blizzard is willing to modernize certain technical aspects while keeping the core Classic gameplay philosophy intact.
Hardcore Is Coming
Hardcore players will eventually have their own place in World of Warcraft: Forever as well.
Blizzard confirmed that Hardcore is coming to Forever, with more information expected during a dedicated deep-dive presentation.
The addition makes sense alongside Forever's emphasis on dangerous travel, preparation and open-world exploration. Hardcore players will have another way to experience the expanded Azeroth once the system becomes available.
The Forever Roadmap
Blizzard has already revealed that Forever will follow a long-term roadmap with a relatively fast content production cycle despite the game's slower-paced philosophy.
Future updates are planned to include new dungeons, raids, expanded world content, PvP season refreshes and additional features. New content will be released alongside the original Classic progression rather than simply replacing it.
This means players will have different activities available depending on their preferred group size and playstyle. Blizzard specifically highlighted the fact that the roadmap will support different group sizes, with new content appearing alongside existing Classic encounters.
The developers have also made it clear that the project is being built for the long term. Even new classes are not completely off the table, meaning Forever could eventually become much larger than what has been announced at launch.
What Makes Forever Different From Classic?
The biggest difference is simple: Classic is no longer only about recreating the past.
World of Warcraft: Forever takes the original Vanilla foundation and asks what Azeroth could have become if Blizzard had continued expanding the world without moving the level cap through traditional expansions.
Players will remain at level 60, but their characters will not remain static. New zones, quests, items, raids, dungeons, class options and stories will continue to provide reasons to play.
That creates a very different progression model from modern WoW and from the historical Classic expansion path.
Instead of replacing the old world, Blizzard is attempting to make the world bigger.
A New Home for Classic Players
The announcement of Forever also gives Classic players a choice that did not previously exist.
Some players want to continue through the historical expansion progression, while others want to remain in the original Azeroth. Forever is designed specifically for the second group.
The developers say that players told them clearly that they did not want another temporary season. They wanted a permanent home where the Classic experience could continue evolving.
World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's answer.
The project will combine the familiar foundations of Vanilla with new content that explores locations such as Mount Hyjal, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle. It will add nine dungeons, new raids, more than 1,000 quests, the Skyborn race, Undead Paladins, new class options, new items, legendary quests, tier sets, PvP content and systems such as Camping.
When Does World of Warcraft: Forever Launch?
World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026, with a beta scheduled to begin shortly after the BlizzCon announcement. Blizzard has positioned the game as a long-term level 60 Classic+ experience rather than another temporary seasonal experiment.
For players who have been waiting for Blizzard to finally commit to a permanent Classic+ direction, this announcement is likely to be one of the most significant moments in the history of Classic WoW.
Final Thoughts
World of Warcraft: Forever is a major change in direction for Classic. Blizzard is no longer simply recreating the original game and moving it through the historical expansion timeline. Instead, the company is creating a version of Azeroth that can continue growing while keeping the level 60 foundation that made Vanilla so memorable.
The most interesting part of the project may be its philosophy. Blizzard wants the world itself to remain important. There will be no flying mounts or level scaling, and players will still be expected to prepare, explore and work together. At the same time, the world will continue expanding with new stories, quests, dungeons, raids, items, races and class combinations.
The arrival of Undead Paladins and the Skyborn race shows that Blizzard is willing to take Classic+ into territory that would never have existed in original Vanilla. Optional transmog, enhanced graphics, account-wide legacy perks, Camping and gamepad support also show that Forever is not intended to be a museum version of Classic.
Instead, it is an attempt to build a new future for the Classic style of World of Warcraft.
With the launch scheduled for November 4, 2026, the next stage of Classic WoW is finally taking shape. Whether Forever becomes the permanent home Blizzard envisions will ultimately depend on how well the new content captures the spirit of Vanilla while giving players enough reasons to keep returning to Azeroth.
For now, however, one thing is certain: Classic+ is real, it is called World of Warcraft: Forever, and Azeroth is about to get considerably bigger.
