World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive, Raids, Classes & Proffesions
World of Warcraft: Forever: Everything Revealed at BlizzCon 2026
Blizzard has revealed a huge amount of new information about World of Warcraft: Forever, the next major evolution of original Azeroth. Rather than simply recreating Classic World of Warcraft or adding another temporary seasonal experience, Forever is being designed as a long-term version of Azeroth that expands the original world with new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, races, class combinations, systems, items and future content.
During the World of Warcraft: Forever What's Next panel and the following Deep Dive presentation, Blizzard explained how the project is being built around the idea that Azeroth itself should remain the center of the experience. The developers want exploration, leveling, professions, social interaction, preparation and discovering something unexpected in the world to remain important even after players reach maximum level.
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, with the beta beginning on September 17, 2026. The first new raids are scheduled to open on December 9, 2026, while additional raids, dungeons, PvP content, world content, quests, Hardcore and a revamped iconic raid are planned for the future. Blizzard has made it clear that Forever is not intended to be another temporary season. It is being developed as an evergreen version of Azeroth that can continue expanding over time.

A New Beginning for Original Azeroth
World of Warcraft: Forever starts with a simple idea: there is still much more to discover in the Azeroth that players already know. Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are being expanded with new regions, unfinished areas, hidden locations and stories that were never fully explored in the original game. Blizzard wants Forever to feel like the Azeroth players remember while giving them reasons to travel beyond familiar paths and discover areas that previously existed only as references, concepts or unexplored parts of the world.
The philosophy behind Forever is based around several principles. The experience should remain approachable and familiar, the world should remain the main character, the journey should matter as much as the destination, and the social experience of Azeroth should remain important. This means leveling continues to matter, effort continues to matter and rewards should come from actually participating in the game rather than simply rushing through content.
Forever will also retain several important Classic principles. There will be no flying mounts and no level scaling, while combat remains based around preparation, communication, positioning, crowd control and cooperation instead of the extremely fast gameplay seen in modern World of Warcraft.
More Than 1,000 New Quests
One of the largest additions to Forever is the amount of new leveling content. Blizzard has confirmed more than 1,000 new quests throughout the level 1 to 60 experience, with the new stories being integrated into the existing world rather than creating a completely separate leveling game.
Several new areas received particular attention during the What's Next presentation, including Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas, Riverglades and Zephras Isle. These locations are intended to expand the original world while maintaining the visual style and atmosphere that players associate with Classic Azeroth.
Mount Hyjal
Mount Hyjal allows players to explore the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat and the damage left behind by the events surrounding the original Warcraft storyline. Players will travel through areas including Darkwhisper Gorge and help shape the future of a recovering Hyjal, with the region eventually becoming the setting for one of Forever's major raids.
Shen'dralas
Shen'dralas introduces a previously unexplored story between Mulgore and Desolace. The area is connected to the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas and Dire Maul while also involving the centaur tribes of the region. Blizzard is using the zone to explore stories and locations that have existed within Warcraft lore for years but never received a full original-Azeroth adventure.
Riverglades
Riverglades is a rugged frontier filled with rivers, grasslands, trade routes, struggling communities and old conflicts. The region contains more than 150 quests, covering much of the mid-30s through mid-40s leveling experience and providing another major area for players to explore while progressing toward level 60.
Zephras Isle
Zephras Isle provides a completely different opening experience. Players begin with an elemental, sky-focused adventure from levels 1 through 12, with the environment combining the visual identity of Classic Warcraft with architecture inspired by Skywall. The island is also the home of the new Skyborne playable race.
The Skyborne Are Coming to Azeroth
Skyborne is a brand-new playable race in World of Warcraft: Forever. At character creation, players choose whether their Skyborne character joins the Horde or Alliance, with each faction receiving a different cultural direction despite sharing the same ancestry.
Horde Skyborne embrace elemental traditions and gain access to the Shaman class, while Alliance Skyborne follow the arcane legacy of their ancestors and gain access to the Mage class. Both factions can also create Skyborne Warriors, Hunters, Rogues and Druids.
Skyborne Druids receive unique forms created specifically for the race, while the race also receives new racial abilities, customizations, voices, dances and visual options. This makes Skyborne one of the most significant additions to the traditional Classic race lineup while still connecting the race closely to the themes of original Azeroth.
Nine New Dungeons
Forever will launch with nine new dungeons based around locations and ideas that have been discussed or referenced throughout Warcraft history. The nine dungeons are Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Whelgar's Excavation, City of Dalaran, Blackmaw Hold, The Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison and Shaper's Terrace.
These dungeons are designed to give familiar parts of Azeroth entirely new purposes. The Ruins of Lordaeron involve the Forsaken attempting to reclaim their former city, while Dalaran contains strange magical problems that players must investigate. Shaper's Terrace explores titan-related mysteries connected to Un'Goro, while The Drowned City brings naga and pirate activity into the adventure. Blackmaw Hold introduces another dangerous mystery, with corruption spreading through the depths beneath Azeroth.
Two Major Raids Revealed
Forever will expand its endgame with new raids, beginning with Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps. Hyjal Summit brings players back to one of the most important locations in Warcraft history and is planned as a 20-player raid, giving groups the opportunity to experience a major new raid in a completely different version of the original Azeroth.
Barrow Deeps is planned as a 10-player maximum-level raid. Blizzard has also confirmed new tier sets and a legendary reward connected to the upcoming raid content, although complete details surrounding the legendary reward have not yet been revealed.
The first new raids are scheduled to unlock on December 9, 2026.
Darkspear Islands Battleground
PvP is also receiving new content in Forever. The Darkspear Islands will introduce a new 15 vs 15 Battleground located off the coast of Kalimdor.
The Battleground combines strategic control points with flag capture and defensive gameplay inspired by the structure of Arathi Basin. Blizzard says PvP updates, new rewards and additional content will continue expanding the competitive side of Forever as development progresses.
The Legacy System Makes Alts More Meaningful
One of the most interesting new systems revealed during the panels is called Legacy. The idea was partly inspired by Hardcore, where Blizzard noticed how many players were constantly leveling new characters and helping keep the world populated.
Forever takes that concept and turns it into a permanent progression system without requiring players to risk permanent character death. Legacy is designed to make leveling multiple characters more rewarding by allowing players to complete Legacy Challenges and earn Legacy Points.
These challenges can include activities such as leveling particular classes or reaching specific profession and skill milestones. The developers want these challenges to fit naturally into the game rather than forcing players to complete unrelated objectives simply to earn progression.
Legacy Points can then be spent in different Legacy Trees. At launch, the system includes Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness.
The Adventure tree includes talents such as Well Rested, which improves rested experience and increases the rested experience cap. The Professions tree includes Bountiful Harvest, which increases materials gathered from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning. The Resourcefulness tree includes perks such as Reagent Economy, which can remove reagent requirements from certain class abilities.
Legacy Points Are Shared Across Characters
Legacy is particularly interesting for players who enjoy maintaining multiple characters. Legacy Points are shared across your characters, but each character spends its points separately in their own trees.
This allows players who enjoy creating many alts to spread their progression across different characters and complete different Legacy Challenges, while players who prefer focusing heavily on one character can spend their available points deeper into specific parts of the trees.
At launch, each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points in the Legacy Trees. Players can continue earning points beyond that limit, with Blizzard stating that players can earn up to 65 Legacy Points at the start, while additional accomplishments contribute toward a Legacy Reward Track.
These additional rewards are designed around cosmetics and prestige rather than direct competitive power. Blizzard showed the Spectral Bear Cub as one example of a reward that can be earned through this system.
The Legacy system is also intended to expand after launch. Blizzard plans to add new challenges, perks, ways to spend points, higher spending caps, new columns and potentially completely new Legacy Trees.
Camping Turns Campfires Into Social Hubs
Camping is another major system designed around making the open world feel more alive. Instead of a Cooking Fire simply being something used to prepare food, players can create a Basic Campfire that becomes a small campsite.
Players can stop at camps to rest, access vendors and repairs, use profession workspaces and receive useful one-hour buffs. The important difference is that players need to actually slow down and spend time at the campfire to become rested before receiving its benefits.
Camps can also be upgraded through special crafted objects. A Basic Campfire can receive up to three special objects from nearby players, with each player able to contribute one object. The objects share a one-hour cooldown.
Every profession receives three different campsite objects that become available at different skill levels. Blacksmiths can place a Sharpening Wheel that increases Attack Power, Tailors can place a Faction Banner that increases Spirit, and Herbalists can place an Incense Candle that increases Intellect. Alchemists can create an Alchemy Lab, Leatherworkers can create a Tanning Rack, and Cooks can unlock upgraded Campfires that support five or ten objects.
These profession buffs are designed as alternatives to certain class-provided effects and do not stack with the corresponding class buffs. The first campsite objects become available around profession skill level 20, while more advanced objects are obtained through Blueprint recipes dropped by specific dungeon bosses.
More Than 600 New Profession Recipes
Professions are receiving considerably more attention in Forever. Blizzard has confirmed more than 600 new recipes across professions and different skill levels.
Crafted food is also being redesigned, with certain foods capable of providing small experience bonuses and stat benefits. The new profession systems are closely connected to Camping, with advanced Blueprint recipes creating additional reasons for players to participate in dungeons and explore the world.
This gives professions a more visible role in everyday Azeroth rather than limiting their importance to crafting items in major cities.
A Realmless Azeroth
One of the biggest infrastructure changes is the removal of traditional realm selection. Forever will use a realmless structure, meaning players will not have to choose one specific realm from a long list before creating their character.
Instead, players choose a ruleset that determines how they want to experience Azeroth. The four planned rulesets are Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore.
Normal provides the cooperative baseline experience where PvP requires mutual consent. PvP creates a more dangerous environment centered around open-world conflict. Roleplaying is designed for players who want a stronger roleplaying experience, while Hardcore focuses on permanent-death gameplay and is planned for after launch.
These rulesets are not one giant server where everyone plays together. Each ruleset functions as its own large ecosystem, with players able to group, run dungeons and raid with others using the same ruleset.
Cross-ruleset grouping will not be supported, and Horde and Alliance characters remain separate. Hardcore will remain its own enclosed ecosystem, although if a Hardcore character dies, that character can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP.
Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across the different rulesets, with an important Hardcore exception. Achievements, collections and rewards earned in Hardcore can carry into other rulesets, but progress earned outside Hardcore does not flow back into Hardcore.
Two-Part Character Names
The new infrastructure also introduces a different naming system. Characters will use two-part names similar to a first name and surname, with names being unique across the region.
This allows players to create more original identities while still making characters recognizable within the larger connected world. Blizzard also plans language preferences so players can encounter others who share their preferred language.
For PvP, faction balance will be supported through systems similar to the approach Blizzard previously used with Season of Discovery. The overall goal is to combine the larger populations of modern connected environments with the feeling of community that made Classic realms memorable.
Transmog Is Optional
Transmog is coming to Forever, but Blizzard is taking a very different approach from modern retail World of Warcraft. Players who want to experience the game without seeing transmog can disable it, while players who choose Classic Mode when first entering the game will automatically have transmog disabled.
Even when disabled, players can continue collecting appearances so they can activate transmog later. The system also includes special rules around dungeon and raid loot.
When a Bind on Pickup Uncommon or Rare item drops in a dungeon, its appearance is granted to all eligible players when the item is looted. This means a player who actually needs the item as an upgrade does not have to compete with another player who only wants the appearance.
Epic raid appearances work differently. The appearance is granted only to the player who receives the Bind on Pickup item, helping preserve the prestige of raid drops and allowing organized raid groups to maintain control over loot decisions.
Poor and Common items can grant their appearances immediately when looted without needing to bind first. Traditional item-type restrictions remain in place, meaning plate appearances remain for plate, cloth remains for cloth and so on.
Characters below level 60 also cannot use high-level appearances until they reach level 60. Cosmetic-only items will exist but are expected to remain relatively rare.
Classic and Modern Visual Options
Forever is also giving players more control over the game's presentation. Players can choose between High-Definition and Standard-Definition character models, while Classic animation options will also be restored for HD character models.
There will be modern and Classic visual presets, allowing players to choose how closely they want their character presentation to resemble traditional Classic Warcraft. Blizzard has also confirmed official gamepad support.
Environmental rendering is being improved as well, but the developers are intentionally keeping the visual identity of original Azeroth. Examples shown during the presentation included flowing rivers through Elwynn Forest, mist over Darkshore and moonlight filtering through the trees in Ashenvale.
The goal is to improve atmosphere and environmental quality without replacing the art style that makes Classic Warcraft recognizable.
Combat Will Remain Deliberate
Blizzard does not want Forever combat to feel like modern retail WoW. Combat remains rooted in the slower and more deliberate Classic approach, meaning individual encounters continue to matter.
An ordinary creature should take roughly 10 to 15 seconds to defeat for a solo player. This means individual pulls remain important and careless gameplay can still be punished.
Dungeon groups will also be expected to use crowd control when too many enemies are present for the tank to control safely. Abilities such as Polymorph, Banish, Fear and Root remain important, while threat management continues to be central to successful dungeon gameplay.
Damage dealers will need to pay attention to their targets and threat, while tanks must manage enemies carefully rather than relying on modern systems that make threat and crowd control largely irrelevant.
Itemization Is Being Reworked
Forever is not simply copying the original Classic item database. Blizzard wants to preserve the recognizable Classic gearing philosophy while making item choices less solved.
Familiar stats remain, but several stats have been changed and new stats have been added. Spell, melee and ranged hit chance are being combined, while spell, melee and ranged critical chance are also being combined.
These changes are particularly useful for hybrid classes such as Retribution Paladins and Enhancement Shamans. Warriors, Hunters and Rogues also benefit from better reliability for abilities and mechanics involving things such as Taunts, Poisons and Traps.
Weapon Skill remains, but individual items provide less Weapon Skill so that stacking Weapon Skill gear is not always the obvious best choice. Bonus Healing will also provide one-third as much Bonus Damage, giving healing-focused characters more offensive potential while questing.
New Stats and More Interesting Trinkets
Some items can reduce the chance that attacks are parried or dodged. Spellcaster weapons will also provide both spell damage and healing, giving casters more interesting leveling weapon upgrades.
Trinkets are being designed to provide more situational effects. Blizzard showed examples such as the Worgenbane Talisman, while some item effects can interact with specific environments such as Woodlands, Mountains and Deserts or with particular creature types such as X'caliboar.
The objective is to make players think about their gear rather than simply equipping the highest theoretical item according to a predetermined list.
Hundreds of New Items
Blizzard has reviewed every dungeon drop. Memorable items that players already love are being preserved, while weaker or less interesting items are being redesigned.
Hundreds of new dungeon and world drops are being added. Unique dungeon boss items are now Blue quality, and set bonuses have been improved to make them more exciting.
Quest rewards are also being expanded to support additional classes and roles. For example, Mor'Ladim's quest in Duskwood still provides its traditional two-handed sword, but now also offers the Ladimore Heirloom Ring for spellcasters.
Hemet Nesingwary's questline in Stranglethorn also receives new reward options, including the Master Hunter's Spellsword. World-drop Epics are being improved, while hundreds of new rare-creature drops are being added throughout Azeroth.
New Race and Class Combinations
Forever is also expanding the traditional race and class restrictions. Six new combinations are planned at launch.
Race | New Class |
|---|---|
Gnome | Priest |
Human | Hunter |
Dwarf | Shaman |
Orc | Mage |
Troll | Warlock |
Undead | Paladin |
Blizzard says additional combinations are planned for future updates. Racial abilities are also being redesigned to make races feel more distinct.
Each race receives two active and two passive racial abilities, with the goal of providing similar overall offensive value while maintaining distinctive utility.
Racial Ability Changes
Dwarves retain the identity of Stoneform, including its ability to deal with Bleeds, Poisons and Diseases, but its defensive component now reduces Physical damage rather than increasing Armor. Find Treasure can operate alongside other tracking abilities, while Mace Specialization now increases critical strike chance for spells and abilities while a mace is equipped. Big Game Hunter increases damage against Beasts.
Undead racial abilities are also receiving major changes. Will of the Forsaken continues to remove Charm, Fear and Sleep, but it no longer provides immunity to those effects. Cannibalize now restores Mana as well as Health, making it useful to mana-based classes such as Mages, Warlocks, Paladins and Priests. Underwater Breathing remains unchanged, while Touch of the Grave provides a new offensive racial effect that gives attacks a chance to drain life from enemies.
Talent Trees Stay Familiar
Talent trees remain recognizable to Classic players. The overall structure and number of rows are being preserved, with milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, while Forever adds a new 16-point milestone.
Some talents remain exactly as they were in patch 1.12, while others have been adjusted or improved. Several important class buffs that previously required talent investment are now baseline abilities, including Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild.
This allows talent points to be spent on more meaningful choices without removing important class utility.
Paladins Receive a Major Overhaul
Blizzard used Paladins as one of the clearest examples of how class design is changing in Forever. The goal is not to turn Paladins into a modern class or remove their weaknesses. Instead, Blizzard wants all three specializations to have stronger tools while retaining the distinctive limitations that make the class feel like a Paladin.
Holy Paladin
Holy Paladins receive several new tools. Holy Strike becomes available at level 6 and provides an instant Holy damage attack with a 12-second cooldown. Seals are no longer consumed when casting Judgment, reducing the amount of repetitive maintenance required.
Seal of Fury provides Protection Paladins with a tank-oriented option built around fast weapons, small absorb shields and a Judgment effect that can taunt. Consecration becomes baseline at level 20 and can be used as both a damage and tanking tool, dealing significant damage and threat against the first four targets and reduced damage and threat against additional targets.
Holy Paladins also receive abilities designed to create more varied healing patterns. Improved Holy Strike reduces Holy Strike's cooldown, while Voice of Truth provides temporary protection against Silence and Interrupt effects. Reverence allows Paladins to regenerate Mana from Spirit while casting.
Infusion of Light rewards critical Holy Shock and Flash of Light healing by reducing the cast time of Holy Light. Holy Shock moves to a 10-second cooldown, while Consecrated Ground increases Holy damage taken by enemies standing in Consecration.
Light's Vigil becomes a high-cost cooldown capable of resetting Holy Shock and producing either additional damage against enemies or group healing through an ally.
Protection Paladin
Protection receives additional tools for Mana management, taunt recovery and survivability. Improved Seal of Fury provides Mana when its absorb effect takes damage, while Shield Specialization provides additional Mana when blocking.
Swift Judgment can reset Judgment once per minute, giving Protection Paladins a way to recover from a missed taunt. Templar's Bulwark creates a powerful absorb shield based on maximum health while interacting with Forbearance.
Reckoning has been redesigned to work for tanks that cannot be critically hit by allowing blocks to trigger it. Iron Creed lets successful Holy Strikes temporarily reduce incoming damage.
Retribution Paladin
Retribution is receiving stronger melee tools while still retaining the possibility of hybrid Holy damage builds. Vindication reduces enemy Attack Power while increasing the Paladin's own.
Sacred Arbiter improves Holy Strike and refreshes Judgments on the target. Champion of the Light increases spell damage based on Intellect, while Instrument of the Law reduces threat generation while making Holy Wrath instant.
Twist of Light supports Seal Twisting without requiring a swing-timer addon. A newly selected Seal can echo into the next melee swing, giving Retribution players more control over their traditional Seal mechanics.
Players who prefer a ranged or spell-oriented style can instead build around Holy Shock.
Paladins Still Have Weaknesses
Despite all of these improvements, Blizzard does not want Paladins to become perfect at everything. Paladins still do not have a traditional interrupt and cannot slow enemies in the same way as some other classes.
Protection Paladins still rely on the Seal and Judgment system for their taunt rather than receiving a simple dedicated taunt button. Paladins remain particularly effective against Undead and Demons thanks to abilities such as Exorcism, Holy Wrath and Turn Undead, while having fewer ranged options against other enemy types.
The goal is to make Holy, Protection and Retribution viable and interesting while keeping the class's recognizable strengths and weaknesses.
What Happens After Launch?
Blizzard is treating Forever as an ongoing version of Azeroth rather than a one-time Classic release. The global launch is scheduled for November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, with the beta opening September 17 and the first new raids arriving December 9.
After launch, Blizzard plans to continue expanding the game with additional raids, more dungeons, new PvP content, additional world content, more quests throughout the level 1 to 60 experience, Hardcore, a revamped iconic raid, additional class and race updates, more Legacy content, additional profession systems and new rewards and progression.
Blizzard has also stated that future updates will be influenced by player feedback, meaning the systems and content revealed at BlizzCon should be viewed as the foundation for a much larger long-term project.
What Makes World of Warcraft: Forever Different?
The biggest takeaway from both BlizzCon panels is that Forever is not simply trying to make Classic WoW bigger. Blizzard is trying to preserve the reasons people loved the original game while addressing some of the limitations that have become apparent over the years.
The world remains the center of the experience. Leveling remains important. Professions become more visible. Dungeons become more rewarding. Classes receive additional depth without completely losing their identities. Players can experience transmog without forcing it onto everyone. Servers are replaced with large ruleset-based ecosystems, while Legacy progression gives long-term value to leveling alts and Camping is designed to create more organic social interactions in the open world.
The result is a version of Azeroth that looks familiar but has significantly more room to grow. Instead of moving players away from the original continents whenever new content arrives, Forever is designed to keep expanding the world players already know.
Final Thoughts
World of Warcraft: Forever could become one of the most ambitious projects Blizzard has attempted with the original version of Azeroth. The game keeps the Classic foundations that players expect, including slower combat, meaningful leveling, dangerous open-world encounters, preparation, crowd control, distinct classes, no flying and no level scaling.
At the same time, Forever introduces more than 1,000 quests, new regions, nine dungeons, new raids, a new playable race, six new race and class combinations, expanded professions, optional transmog, realmless infrastructure, Legacy progression and a new social Camping system.
The launch date is set for November 4, 2026, with the beta opening on September 17 and the first new raids arriving December 9. Blizzard's plans go considerably further than launch, with additional raids, dungeons, PvP, world content, Hardcore and a revamped iconic raid already confirmed for the future.
If Blizzard can maintain the balance between Classic's identity and the freedom to expand Azeroth without losing what made the original game special, Forever could provide Classic players with something they have been asking for for years: a version of Azeroth that can keep moving forward without abandoning where it began.
For players preparing for the next chapter of Classic-style WoW, keep an eye on misti.services for more World of Warcraft: Forever guides, leveling information, class updates, raid coverage and future progression content.
