That has naturally brought the Classic Plus rumor machine back to life. New screenshots, supposed internal information, datamined files and alleged release dates have been circulating across the community for months. Some of the claims are interesting, but there is an important distinction that is easy to lose when reading through all of the speculation: Blizzard has not officially announced WoW Classic Plus.

What Blizzard has indicated is that players should expect more information about the future of Classic after the current Burning Crusade Anniversary progression reaches Black Temple. With that point now behind the game, attention is increasingly turning toward what Blizzard might announce at BlizzCon.

For now, there is a lot we can discuss, but very little that can honestly be called confirmed.

What Blizzard Has Actually Confirmed

The most reliable information about the future of Classic is considerably less dramatic than many of the rumors currently circulating online.

BlizzCon 2026 is confirmed for September 12 and 13 in Anaheim. Blizzard has also previously indicated that more clarity about the future of WoW Classic would come after Black Temple content. That timing is particularly important because Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary is already well into its later progression.

Beyond that, players should be careful.

Blizzard has not officially announced a product called "WoW Classic Plus." There is no confirmed Classic Plus release date, no official announcement of a new class such as the rumored Spellblade, and no published roadmap confirming that Wrath of the Lich King Anniversary will launch in 2027.

The community has connected a number of different pieces of information and created a much larger picture around them. That picture might eventually prove accurate, but it is still speculation until Blizzard confirms it.

That faster schedule has allowed Blizzard to move through the expansion's raid tiers much more quickly than it did during the original release. By the time BlizzCon arrives, Black Temple will already be established as one of the central pieces of the current endgame.

Black Temple is obviously one of the most recognizable raids in Burning Crusade. The raid sends players against Illidan Stormrage and provides the Tier 6 gear that defined the final stages of the expansion for many original Burning Crusade players.

Mount Hyjal is part of the same progression stage, while Sunwell Plateau remains the major piece still ahead in the original Burning Crusade content sequence.

The timing is important because Blizzard previously pointed toward the period after Black Temple as the point when it would provide more information about the future of Classic.

That makes BlizzCon 2026 much more interesting than a normal Warcraft event for Classic players. Blizzard now has a natural opportunity to explain where the Anniversary servers are going next and whether something completely different is being developed alongside them.

Is WoW Classic Plus Actually Coming?

This is the question everyone wants answered.

The phrase "Classic Plus" has been used by the WoW community for years to describe an expanded version of Classic that keeps the original game's foundations while adding new content.

The idea is relatively simple. Instead of taking Classic through every historical expansion exactly as it happened, Blizzard could continue developing the original version of Azeroth with new quests, zones, dungeons, raids, items, systems or even classes.

Season of Discovery showed that Blizzard is willing to experiment with this concept.

However, Season of Discovery and Classic Plus are not the same thing. Season of Discovery was designed as an experimental seasonal experience, while the version of Classic Plus being discussed by the community would presumably be a much larger and more permanent project.

That difference is important because there is still no official confirmation that Blizzard has decided to create such a game.

The current rumors could eventually be correct, but players should not mistake the amount of discussion surrounding Classic Plus for an official announcement.

The Project Camelot Rumors

One of the more interesting parts of the current rumor cycle revolves around something the community has nicknamed Project Camelot.

The name has been associated with alleged internal Classic development information, including references to different license entries and files connected to older Classic development branches. As usually happens with datamining, those discoveries have been interpreted in several different ways.

Some players believe the information points toward a new Classic experience. Others believe the files could simply represent internal testing or development work that may never become a public product.

There is also a separate rumor claiming that a Classic Plus release could arrive as early as October 13, 2026, with an Epic Edition providing several days of early access.

That would certainly be a major change from the way Classic has traditionally been launched, but there is currently no Blizzard confirmation of either date or an early access system.

Players should therefore avoid making major decisions based on the October rumor alone.

A Classic game launching with several days of paid early access would also have a significant effect on server economies. The first groups to enter a fresh Classic environment can establish professions, accumulate resources and control valuable markets before the majority of players even arrive.

Whether Blizzard would actually want that kind of launch remains an open question.

What About the Rumored Spellblade Class?

Another rumor that has gained considerable attention is the supposed addition of a new class called Spellblade.

The concept would fit naturally into the type of changes people expect from a Classic Plus project. Classic's original class roster has remained one of the defining parts of the game since 2004, so adding an entirely new class would fundamentally change the balance between existing classes and create a completely new progression path.

It would also be one of the easiest features for Blizzard to use as a headline announcement.

But again, there is no official confirmation.

There is currently no Blizzard announcement describing a Spellblade class, its abilities, talent trees, armor type or role. Until that changes, the Spellblade should be considered a community rumor rather than a confirmed feature.

If Blizzard does reveal a new Classic class at BlizzCon, it would arguably be one of the biggest Classic announcements the company has ever made.

Wrath of the Lich King Classic Anniversary Could Be Next

If Blizzard continues the Anniversary progression in the same direction as the original game, Wrath of the Lich King is the obvious next destination.

The original Wrath expansion took players into Northrend and eventually toward Icecrown Citadel and the final confrontation with Arthas. It also introduced the Death Knight hero class, Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader and many of the systems that became defining parts of late-era WoW.

The community currently expects a Wrath of the Lich King Anniversary project to become relevant in 2027, assuming Burning Crusade Anniversary follows the expected progression schedule.

That timeline makes sense, but it remains a prediction.

Blizzard has not officially announced Wrath Anniversary, and players should not assume that every current Burning Crusade character will automatically follow the same progression path.

There are several questions Blizzard would need to answer if Wrath Anniversary is announced. Would existing characters move directly into Northrend? Would there be fresh realms? Would Death Knights follow their original restrictions? Would Blizzard offer another paid character boost?

The company has already demonstrated that character boosts can be part of its Anniversary strategy, so another boost option would not be surprising. Whether Blizzard chooses a level 68 boost, a different system or no boost at all remains unknown.

Mists of Pandaria Classic Has Its Own Problem

While Classic Plus and Wrath dominate most community discussions, Mists of Pandaria Classic has reached an equally important point.

Siege of Orgrimmar arrived in June 2026, bringing the expansion to its final raid tier. That leaves Blizzard with another long-term decision: what happens to these servers after the expansion's content cycle is complete?

There are several possibilities.

Blizzard could keep the realms running as era servers. It could move the progression into Warlords of Draenor. It could develop another form of progression or eventually connect the characters to another part of the Warcraft ecosystem.

At the moment, there is no definitive roadmap.

That uncertainty matters for players who have spent months building characters, professions and collections in Mists of Pandaria Classic. Without a confirmed next step, it is difficult to know whether the current economy and character progression will remain relevant for years or eventually become part of another transition.

Season of Discovery Could Be the Biggest Clue

If Blizzard does announce another experimental Classic project, Season of Discovery may provide the strongest clue about the company's preferred approach.

Season of Discovery was revealed at BlizzCon 2023 and launched shortly afterward. Instead of giving players a complete roadmap years in advance, Blizzard allowed much of the experience to unfold through discovery.

Players found new abilities, experimented with class combinations and gradually learned how the altered Classic environment worked.

That approach was very different from simply releasing another old expansion.

It also showed that Blizzard does not necessarily need to reveal every detail of a Classic project months before launch.

If the company wants to surprise the community again, it could potentially use a similar strategy for whatever comes next.

A future Classic project could be announced at BlizzCon with only a portion of its content revealed, leaving players to discover the rest after launch.

What Could Blizzard Reveal at BlizzCon 2026?

There are several realistic possibilities for the Classic presentation.

The simplest would be an announcement of Wrath of the Lich King Anniversary. It would continue the existing progression and give Burning Crusade players a clear destination.

The more ambitious option would be Classic Plus.

A full Classic Plus announcement could include new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, items and potentially new classes. It would give Blizzard an opportunity to create content that does not simply repeat the original expansion cycle.

Another possibility is a new Season of Discovery-style project. Blizzard could use the Classic foundation to test new systems without committing to a permanent Classic Plus world.

It is also possible that Blizzard could announce more than one project.

There is no reason the company could not continue the Anniversary progression while simultaneously developing a separate Classic experience. That would allow players who want the traditional expansion journey to continue while giving players looking for something new another option.

Should You Prepare for Classic Plus?

If you currently play WoW Classic, the best approach is to prepare without assuming that any specific leak is true.

Continue playing the content you actually enjoy. If you are progressing through Burning Crusade Anniversary, there is no reason to stop simply because the community expects something new to be announced.

The same applies to gold and items.

There is nothing wrong with keeping some resources available for a future expansion or Classic project, but building your entire strategy around an unconfirmed October release date would be risky.

The Classic community has seen plenty of convincing rumors disappear after Blizzard finally makes an official announcement.

Burning Crusade Anniversary is moving toward the end of its progression. Mists of Pandaria Classic has reached its final raid tier. Wrath Anniversary remains unannounced, while Classic Plus continues to generate new rumors almost every week.

That makes September 12 and 13 particularly important.

BlizzCon 2026 is the first major opportunity for Blizzard to address the future of Classic directly in front of the community. If the company has been preparing a major new Classic project, this is exactly the kind of event where it would make sense to reveal it.

For now, however, players should separate the confirmed information from everything else.

BlizzCon 2026 is confirmed. The future of Classic is expected to be discussed. Beyond that, the release dates, new classes and Classic Plus roadmap currently circulating online remain unconfirmed.

Maybe the October 2026 rumors will turn out to be accurate. Maybe Blizzard will announce Wrath Anniversary instead. Maybe Classic Plus will finally become real, or perhaps the company has something completely different planned.
