TBC Classic Anniversary: Dates, Transfers & New Races
Into the Outland (Again!): Everything We Know About WoW: Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Edition
Are you ready? Because it’s time to step through the Dark Portal one more time.
Blizzard has officially announced the WoW: Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Edition, launching early next year. If you’ve been itching to hear the fel reaver roar or finally get your hands on a flying mount again, your time is coming.
Whether you are a seasoned veteran of the original 2007 launch or you missed the last Classic rotation, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming changes, the new races, and the very important choice you have to make for your characters.
The Big Dates: Mark Your Calendars
The most immediate date you need to know is January 13.
This is when the Pre-Expansion Patch drops following regional maintenance. Once this hits, the world changes. This update is included with your standard WoW Subscription, so no extra purchase is required. However, logging in after this date forces you to make a decision.
The Choice: Advance or Stay Behind?
Beginning January 13, every time you log into a character, you must choose their path:
- Advance to Outland: Move the character to the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realm to level up to 70.
- Stay in Era: Move the character to a Classic Era realm to keep playing vanilla level 60 content forever.
New Features: What Awaits in Outland
This isn’t just a carbon copy of the game; it’s a curated experience with some nice quality-of-life bumps. The level cap is rising to 70, and Blizzard has promised an "increased level cadence," meaning the grind shouldn't feel quite as punishing this time around.
Here is what you can look forward to:
- Two New Races: The Horde gets Blood Elves (unlocking Paladins), while the Alliance welcomes the Draenei (unlocking Shaman). This is the big faction balance shake-up that changes the meta completely.
- Flying Mounts: Finally, we can take to the skies. This opens up areas of the map that were previously unreachable.
- Jewelcrafting: The new profession arrives. This is huge for min-maxing stats with gems, rings, and trinkets. (Draenei get a racial bonus to this, by the way!)
- Guild Banks at Launch: Unlike the previous TBC Classic release, we are getting Guild Banks immediately. No more mule characters holding all the raid consumes!
Raids and PvP: The End Game
At launch, we are looking at three major raid instances. It’s time to clean up the ghostly halls of Karazhan, take down the ogres in Gruul’s Lair, and face the pit lord in Magtheridon’s Lair.
For the PvP enthusiasts, Arena Season 1 kicks off with the expansion. We’ll be battling in the Ring of Trials, Circle of Blood, and Ruins of Lordaeron.
The best news? There is no ranking system associated with Honor anymore, so you don't need to treat the game like a full-time job just to maintain your rank. You just play for the gear and the glory.
Critical Warning: Transfer Deadlines
This part is crucial if you have characters you don't want to take into TBC. Blizzard is opening up free character transfers from Anniversary Realms to Classic Era realms starting November 25.
- Transfer Window: November 25, 2025 – January 12, 2026.
- The Hard Cutoff: After January 12, the option to transfer to Era is gone.
If you do nothing, your character stays on the Anniversary realm and progresses to Burning Crusade automatically. If you want to keep a "forever 60" character, you must move them during this window.
Getting Prepared
Whether you are rolling a new Blood Elf Mage to seek revenge for the Sunwell, or a Draenei Shaman to craft gems for your guild, the pre-patch is the perfect time to level up. The Anniversary Edition seems to be striking a balance between nostalgia and modern convenience.
We’ll see you in Hellfire Peninsula!
