WoW Coiled Isle Guide

The Coiled Isle is one of the main outdoor areas added with WoW Midnight Patch 12.1, The Curse of Ula'tek. The island is hidden behind thick fog and becomes an important part of the Season 2 content, with new quests, rares, treasures, Delves, events and several other activities packed into a relatively small area.

If you are just getting started, there are a few things worth knowing before you head there. The island has 22 treasures to collect, 12 rares to hunt, 11 Skyriding Glyphs to find and several achievements tied to exploration and completion.

The Auriferous Venomfang mount is also waiting for players who complete the Treasures of the Coiled Isle achievement.

Here is what you need to know about the Coiled Isle in WoW Midnight.

The island is designed around exploration. You can spend time clearing rares and collecting treasures, work through the story, or use the area as a starting point for some of Midnight Season 2's PvE content.

How to Unlock the Coiled Isle

Getting access to the Coiled Isle requires progressing through the Patch 12.1 campaign.

Start with Hagar's Invitation in Silvermoon City and continue through the Curse of Ula'tek storyline. Eventually, the campaign will give you the quest What Lies Beyond the Fog.

Complete that quest to unlock normal access to the island.

The introduction is also tied to your Warband, so completing the initial story makes access much easier for your other characters as well.

Coiled Isle Unlock Steps

Step

What to Do

1

Go to Silvermoon City

2

Pick up Hagar's Invitation

3

Follow the Patch 12.1 campaign

4

Continue until What Lies Beyond the Fog

5

Complete the quest and unlock the Coiled Isle

6

Return to the island whenever you want through the available travel routes

It is worth finishing the introduction before trying to explore the island freely. Otherwise, you can end up doing unnecessary backtracking while the campaign catches up with your character.

How to Get to the Coiled Isle

The Coiled Isle is located east of Zul'Aman in the Eastern Kingdoms.

Once the area is unlocked, flying is the easiest way to reach it. You can also use the Flight Master at Tokka's Landing once that route becomes available.

Swimming from Zul'Aman is technically possible, but there is little reason to do it when flying is available.

There is also a route connected to Season 2 Prey progression that can take players from Silvermoon City toward the island.

Coiled Isle Map and Important Locations

Most of the outdoor content is spread around Tokka's Landing, while several important entrances and instances are located farther around the island.

Tokka's Landing is the place you will probably visit most often. It acts as the main base for the zone and is a useful starting point when planning treasure, rare or Glyph routes.

What Can You Do on the Coiled Isle?

There is quite a lot packed into the zone.

Besides normal exploration and questing, the island connects several major Season 2 activities. You will find Delves, the Tidebound Grotto encounter, the Altar of Fangs dungeon and access to the wider Season 2 story and PvE progression.

The main activities include:

  • 12 rare enemies

  • 22 treasures

  • 11 Skyriding Glyphs

  • 10 Lore Objects

  • Side quests

  • Vaults of Atal'Utek

  • Curse Surges

  • Cursed Fishing

  • Captain Tokka friendship progression

  • Zul'jarra's Forces Renown

  • Prey activities

  • Three Delves

  • Tidebound Grotto

  • Altar of Fangs

  • The Venomous Abyss

That makes Coiled Isle more than just another outdoor questing zone. You can come back here throughout the season for several different types of progression.

Coiled Isle Dungeon: Altar of Fangs

Altar of Fangs is the new three-boss dungeon introduced with Patch 12.1.

The bosses are:

  1. Rav'i

  2. The Writhing Coil

  3. Zul'jan

The dungeon becomes part of the Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ rotation. Heroic is available with Patch 12.1, while Mythic and Mythic+ content follow with the start of Season 2.

If you are working on Mythic+ progression, Altar of Fangs is one of the key dungeons to learn as the season develops.

The Venomous Abyss Raid

The Coiled Isle is also connected to The Venomous Abyss, the main eight-boss raid introduced with Midnight Season 2.

The raid eventually leads players to Ula'tek, with encounters including:

Encounter

Raid

Nek'zali the Soulcoiler

The Venomous Abyss

Entombed Sentinels

The Venomous Abyss

Vashnik the Malignant

The Venomous Abyss

The Lost Explorers

The Venomous Abyss

Sszorak

The Venomous Abyss

The Twin Fangs

The Venomous Abyss

The Coiled Altar

The Venomous Abyss

Ula'tek

The Venomous Abyss

Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulties are part of the Season 2 raid progression, with Raid Finder wings opening over time. Story Mode and additional Raid Finder wings follow later in the season.

Coiled Isle World Boss: Nymrissa Wavecaller

The Coiled Isle's world boss encounter is Nymrissa Wavecaller, located inside The Tidebound Grotto.

The entrance is underwater around:

/way 60.0, 66.3

It is located south of Tokka's Landing.

Unlike a traditional outdoor world boss, Tidebound Grotto puts the encounter inside an instance. World difficulty supports matchmaking, while the higher difficulties require premade groups.

For players working through Season 2 content, Nymrissa is an important encounter to keep on your weekly checklist.

Coiled Isle Rare Locations

There are 12 rares needed for the Coiled to Strike achievement.

They are also worth checking during your normal island routes because they can provide Adventurer-track gear and Coffer Key Shards.

If you are collecting all 12, it makes sense to combine rare hunting with your treasure route instead of making separate trips around the island.

Coiled Isle Skyriding Glyph Locations

There are 11 Skyriding Glyphs around the island.

Because flying is available across the outdoor zone, collecting them is fairly straightforward. Many of the Glyphs are positioned close to other objectives, so you can pick them up while working on treasures and exploration achievements.

The Glyph Hunter achievement is mainly a completion reward, but collecting the Glyphs during your normal exploration route saves a lot of time later.

Coiled Isle Delves

Patch 12.1 adds three Delves connected to the Coiled Isle.

Two are standard Delves, while the third is a Season 2 Nemesis Delve.

Venomfall Deeps is the standout Delve for Season 2.

It is located in the northern part of the Coiled Isle at approximately 51.2, 31.0 and contains Azta'rec, the Season 2 Nemesis boss.

Azta'rec has dedicated challenges, achievements and seasonal rewards, making Venomfall Deeps particularly important for players working toward the full Season 2 Nemesis progression.

Best Way to Explore the Coiled Isle

If your goal is to finish the zone efficiently, there is no real reason to complete everything in separate trips.

A better approach is to combine objectives.

Start at Tokka's Landing, then work through nearby treasures and rares while picking up any Skyriding Glyphs you pass. Once you have finished the outdoor objectives in one section, move toward the next area and continue the same process.

A simple checklist looks like this:

Goal

Total

Treasures

22

Rares

12

Skyriding Glyphs

11

Lore Objects

10

Regular Delves

2

Nemesis Delve

1

This approach saves time and avoids flying across the island multiple times for objectives that are only a short distance apart.

Final Thoughts

The Coiled Isle is one of those Midnight zones that is easy to overlook if you only focus on the main campaign, but there is quite a bit packed into it.

Between the 22 treasures, 12 rares, 11 Skyriding Glyphs, Delves, outdoor events and Season 2 content, you can spend a good amount of time here after finishing the initial story.

For completionists, the biggest target is obviously the Auriferous Venomfang from the 22 treasure achievement. For PvE players, Venomfall Deeps, Tidebound Grotto, Altar of Fangs and The Venomous Abyss are the more important reasons to keep the zone on your radar.

If you are working through Midnight Season 2, keeping your Coiled Isle objectives organized will save you a lot of unnecessary flying later.
