WoW Midnight The Worldcore Raid, Mythic+ Changes, Paladins and More
World of Warcraft: Midnight is approaching its most important story developments yet. Blizzard has revealed The Worldcore, the final raid of Midnight, while also outlining major changes to Mythic+ achievements, Paladin options, transmog, Bonus Rolls and the story surrounding Sargeras' sword and Azeroth's Worldsoul.
The announcements paint a picture of an expansion entering its final major chapter. Xal'atath has reached the Worldsoul, the conflict with the Void is escalating and players will eventually have to fight their way into the Worldcore itself.
The Worldcore Is the Final Raid of Midnight
The Worldcore will be the final raid of World of Warcraft: Midnight. The raid will contain eight bosses and will take players toward the center of Azeroth's Worldsoul.
The basic objective is straightforward: players must fight through the defenses and powerful lieutenants protecting the Worldcore before confronting Xal'atath. The raid is positioned as the culmination of the Midnight storyline and represents the final major confrontation of the expansion's central conflict.
The story surrounding the raid is more complicated than simply defeating another villain. Blizzard has confirmed that Xal'atath has already reached the Worldsoul, but the Worldsoul itself is fighting back. Players will also be resisting her efforts, creating a direct conflict between Xal'atath, Azeroth and the heroes attempting to protect the planet.
The developers have also warned that the story will contain major turns and that players should not assume every objective will end with a straightforward victory.

The Mantle Vault Leads Toward the Worldcore
The Worldcore is closely connected to the Mantle Vault, the enormous Titan structure being introduced with Patch 12.2.
The Mantle Vault will contain massive Titan architecture, underground races and secrets connected to the Worldsoul. Blizzard has also teased unusual environmental storytelling, including the Radiant Screams, a feature connected to the earlier Radiant Song storyline.
The developers have described the area as visually different from other underground zones, with huge structures and lighting influenced by the Worldsoul. Players will encounter campaigns, side quests, rares and treasures while uncovering more information about what is happening beneath Azeroth.
What Happened to Sargeras' Sword?
One of the biggest questions surrounding the Worldsoul Saga has been the fate of Sargeras' sword.
Blizzard has now confirmed that the sword came extremely close to striking the Worldsoul, but it missed. The developers also made it clear that the sword has not been forgotten and that it will become increasingly relevant during Eclipse.
This means the giant weapon remains an important piece of the larger story, even as Midnight's immediate conflict focuses on Xal'atath and the Void.
Mythic+ Top 5% Achievement Is Coming
Patch 12.2 will introduce a new top 5% Mythic+ achievement. The new achievement is designed for players who can reach a very high level of Mythic+ performance but fall short of the existing top 1% threshold.
The bigger change, however, is how the rankings will be calculated.
Both the top 5% and top 1% achievements will be based on individual specialization rather than the entire Mythic+ population. Players using an off-meta specialization will therefore compete against other players of that specialization instead of being directly compared with every other DPS, healer or tank specialization.
Achievement | Patch 12.2 System |
|---|---|
Top 5% | Ranked within specialization |
Top 1% | Ranked within specialization |
Top 0.1% | Remains overall |
Purpose | Encourage players to compete using their preferred spec |
The change is designed to make high-level Mythic+ progression more welcoming to players who prefer a particular specialization. Instead of feeling forced to change to whichever spec is considered strongest, players can pursue top rankings within their chosen specialization.
The top 0.1% ranking remains overall, meaning the highest competitive level will continue to measure players across the wider Mythic+ population.
Paladins Are Getting New Options
Patch 12.2 will also bring new Paladin possibilities. Blizzard has confirmed that Forsaken Paladins are coming, something the developers have apparently considered for some time.
The timing fits the story surrounding the conflict between the Void and the Light. Blizzard has also mentioned additional races that have generated significant player interest, with Night Elves specifically being discussed.
Each newly supported Paladin race will receive its own Charger mount. There will also be a dedicated story for each Paladin race, although completing that story will not be required to unlock the class option.
These stories are intended to show the journey of a particular character who chose the path of becoming a Paladin, adding more lore around how different races approach the Light.
Bonus Rolls May Change in Season 3
The Great Vault and Bonus Roll system has also generated substantial player feedback.
Blizzard reviewed data showing how often players choose Bonus Rolls instead of gear from the Great Vault. At the high end, the two choices are relatively balanced, while lower-end players tend to select gear more frequently.
The problem comes from the tension created when a player sees an important piece of gear in the Vault but feels that taking the Bonus Roll is strategically better. This becomes particularly relevant early in a season when players are trying to complete their four-piece set.
Blizzard has acknowledged this feedback and indicated that it will influence the design of Season 3. One possible solution being considered is delaying Bonus Rolls in the Great Vault for the first couple of weeks of a season. This has not been presented as a final decision, so players should treat it as a potential direction rather than a confirmed system change.
Transmog Becomes Much More Flexible
Another major change arriving around Patch 12.2.5 is the removal of armor-type restrictions for transmog.
This means a character will no longer be limited to appearances traditionally associated with cloth, leather, mail or plate when selecting cosmetic armor.
Weapon and class restrictions will remain, so players will still need to respect certain limitations. However, removing armor-type restrictions should dramatically increase the number of possible appearance combinations.
Blizzard explained that this reflects a broader philosophy of allowing players more freedom to express themselves through customization.
A New Calibration Chamber for Testing Characters
Players who enjoy optimizing builds will also have a new tool to experiment with in the Calibration Chamber.
Blizzard is considering features such as cooldown resets, temporary raid buffs, consumables and different enemy layouts. The goal is to make it possible to test single-target damage, stacked enemies, cleave and spread-out combat without having to recreate those situations manually.
The Calibration Chamber is intended purely as a testing environment, allowing players to refine rotations and experiment with character setups before entering actual content.
A New Legendary Dagger Is Being Developed
Blizzard is also working on a new legendary caster weapon. The weapon is being designed as a dagger so that it can potentially be used by a broader selection of characters.
The developers specifically noted recent changes allowing Devourer Demon Hunters to use daggers, which expands the potential audience for the weapon. Blizzard has not yet finalized all details surrounding how the legendary will be acquired or exactly how powerful it will be.
The End of Midnight Is Taking Shape
The combination of The Worldcore, the Mantle Vault, new Paladin options, Mythic+ ranking changes, transmog freedom and the continuing mystery surrounding Sargeras' sword shows that Midnight is entering a major stage of development.
The Worldcore will serve as the ultimate raid confrontation, while Patch 12.2 and Season 3 will give players a large amount of additional content to experience before that final encounter. Mythic+ players will have new ranking goals, collectors will receive much greater transmog freedom and players interested in lore will have new stories surrounding Paladins, the Worldsoul and the Void.
There are still important details Blizzard has not revealed, particularly around the final raid, the legendary weapon and how some of the Season 3 systems will ultimately work.
For players preparing for the final stages of Midnight, now is a good time to start thinking about character progression, gear, Mythic+ goals, raid preparation and the content they want to complete before the Worldcore becomes the center of the story.
misti.services will continue covering World of Warcraft: Midnight news, guides, endgame content and progression as Blizzard reveals more about Patch 12.2, Season 3 and The Worldcore.
