WoW Forever Dungeons Guide: All 9 New Dungeons and Level Ranges
World of Warcraft: Forever expands the classic dungeon experience with nine completely new dungeons designed to fit into the level 1–60 journey. These instances are spread across Azeroth rather than being limited to the endgame, giving players new group content while leveling as well as challenging dungeons for characters approaching level 60.
The new dungeons are built into the expanded world of Forever, with locations ranging from the depths beneath Ironforge and the ruins of Lordaeron to the new Riverglades region, Alcaz Island, Azshara, and Un'Goro Crater. Blizzard has confirmed the level ranges for all nine launch dungeons, with the first becoming available at level 13 and the final two designed for level 55–60 characters.
WoW Forever will also retain the existing Classic dungeon roster, meaning these nine new instances are additions to the original dungeon experience rather than replacements for the dungeons players already know.

The Hall of Thanes
The Hall of Thanes is the first of the new Forever dungeons and is designed for characters between levels 13 and 18.
The dungeon is located beneath Ironforge, taking players into an ancient dwarven burial complex. The area is connected to the history of the dwarven kings and contains old chambers that have been disturbed.
The Hall of Thanes gives early-level characters another reason to group up shortly after leaving the starting zones. Its location also makes it particularly relevant to Alliance characters progressing through the early stages of the Eastern Kingdoms, although the dungeon itself forms part of the wider dungeon experience available in Forever.
The dungeon's atmosphere focuses heavily on ancient dwarven architecture, underground chambers, and threats that have entered a place that was intended to remain undisturbed. Current dungeon information confirms the level range of 13–18.
Ruins of Lordaeron
The Ruins of Lordaeron is the second new dungeon and is intended for characters between levels 15 and 20.
The dungeon takes players into the remains of Lordaeron, an important location in Warcraft history that was left devastated following the events surrounding the fall of the kingdom.
The ruins still contain dangerous enemies, and the dungeon continues the story of the Forsaken and their relationship with their former capital. Players entering the instance will encounter the remains of a city that has never truly escaped the consequences of its destruction.
With a level range of 15–20, Ruins of Lordaeron arrives very early in the leveling experience and provides another group option shortly after the Hall of Thanes.
Excavation Site: Wetlands
The third new dungeon is Excavation Site: Wetlands, designed for characters between levels 24 and 29.
The instance is located above Whelgar's Excavation Site in the Wetlands, expanding an area that Classic players will already recognize. The excavation becomes the setting for another underground adventure, giving the Wetlands an additional piece of dungeon content.
Its position in the level 24–29 range places it directly into the middle of the leveling journey. Players moving through the Wetlands and surrounding zones will have another reason to explore the region with a group instead of simply passing through it.
The dungeon is also a good example of how Forever expands familiar areas rather than completely abandoning the original geography of Azeroth.
City of Dalaran
The City of Dalaran dungeon is designed for levels 28–33 and takes players into one of the most recognizable magical cities in Warcraft.
In Forever, the barrier surrounding Dalaran has come down and the city has been restored, but the situation inside remains unstable. The Kirin Tor require assistance dealing with the problems that have appeared within the city.
This dungeon provides a new interpretation of Dalaran while expanding an area that was previously much more restricted in the Classic world. It also gives players another group activity around the late-20s and early-30s portion of leveling.
City of Dalaran is located in the Alterac Mountains region and is one of the dungeons that demonstrates how Forever is taking familiar Warcraft locations and turning previously inaccessible or underdeveloped areas into playable content.
The Drowned City
The Drowned City becomes available for characters between levels 35 and 40.
This dungeon is located among ancient ruins off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale. Its environment is substantially different from the traditional caves, castles, and underground complexes found throughout Classic.
The ruins have become home to dangerous forces including naga and pirates, creating a setting built around submerged architecture and the remnants of an older civilization.
The Drowned City was also available for testing during BlizzCon 2026, giving players an early look at one of the new environments Blizzard is introducing with Forever.
Its level range makes it a natural dungeon option for characters progressing through the middle stages of the 1–60 journey.
Krol'dok Stronghold
Krol'dok Stronghold is one of the most important new dungeons for the mid-to-late leveling experience.
The dungeon is located in Riverglades, one of the four major new zones being introduced in WoW Forever. It is designed for characters between levels 40 and 45.
There was initially conflicting information about the dungeon's level range, with some early material listing it as 40–55. Blizzard subsequently clarified that the correct range is 40–45, so the lower and upper limits in this guide use the corrected official information.
Riverglades itself is a major new leveling region with a large amount of quest content, new settlements, and additional storylines. Krol'dok Stronghold adds group content to that environment and gives players another reason to explore the new zone rather than simply passing through it.
For players following an alternative leveling route through Riverglades, this dungeon can become an important part of the progression between the traditional mid-level instances and the higher-level content.
Alcaz Prison
Alcaz Prison is designed for levels 48–53 and is located on Alcaz Island, off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh.
The island has historically been one of the more mysterious locations in Classic Azeroth, and Forever expands its role by introducing a dedicated dungeon.
The level range places Alcaz Prison firmly in the later stages of leveling. Characters approaching level 50 can use it as another source of group content while progressing toward the final stages of the journey to level 60.
Its location also fits the wider Forever philosophy of taking places that existed in the original world but had limited gameplay relevance and giving them expanded stories and activities.
Blackmaw Hold
Blackmaw Hold is a high-level dungeon designed for characters between levels 55 and 60.
The dungeon is located behind the Furbolg Gates in the northern part of Azshara and is described as a major Furbolg city.
Very little of Blackmaw Hold was accessible to players in the original Classic experience, making its inclusion in Forever another example of Blizzard opening previously inaccessible areas of Azeroth.
Because the dungeon covers levels 55–60, it is intended to become part of the final leveling stage and early level-60 progression. Characters can encounter it while preparing for the broader endgame rather than having to wait for a later expansion.
Blackmaw Hold also sits within the wider high-level content added to Forever, giving players another reason to explore northern Kalimdor.
Shaper's Terrace
Shaper's Terrace is the highest-level of the nine new launch dungeons, covering levels 58–60.
The dungeon is located in Un'Goro Crater, an area already associated with Titan-related lore and ancient technology.
Its placement at levels 58–60 makes it particularly important for players approaching the level cap. Unlike the earlier dungeons, Shaper's Terrace is designed for characters who are already near the end of their leveling journey.
The dungeon also fits into Forever's expanded approach to Titan-related stories, giving players another piece of high-level content before they move fully into level-60 activities.
For players looking to reach level 60 efficiently while still experiencing the new content, Shaper's Terrace represents one of the final dungeon destinations available during the leveling journey.
How the New Dungeons Fit Into Leveling
One of the most important aspects of the Forever dungeon system is how widely the nine new instances are distributed across the 1–60 progression.
The first two dungeons become available before level 20, followed by Excavation Site and City of Dalaran in the 20s and early 30s. The Drowned City and Krol'dok Stronghold then cover the middle levels, while Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold, and Shaper's Terrace take players through the final portion of the journey.
This creates a much broader dungeon progression than simply adding several level-60 instances.
Leveling Stage | New Dungeon Options |
|---|---|
13–20 | Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron |
20–30 | Excavation Site: Wetlands |
28–33 | City of Dalaran |
35–40 | The Drowned City |
40–45 | Krol'dok Stronghold |
48–53 | Alcaz Prison |
55–60 | Blackmaw Hold |
58–60 | Shaper's Terrace |
The overlap between several dungeons also gives players more flexibility. For example, characters around the late 20s can choose between continuing with Excavation Site and moving into City of Dalaran once they reach its required level range.
WoW Forever Dungeons and the Classic Dungeon Roster
The nine new dungeons do not replace the original Classic instances.
Forever keeps the familiar dungeon experience while adding new locations to the same world. This means players can still experience classic destinations while also having access to the new Forever instances.
The result is a much larger dungeon pool spread across the entire level 1–60 journey. Players leveling additional characters will have more opportunities to vary their routes rather than repeating exactly the same dungeon progression every time.
The combination of old and new dungeons is particularly important for Forever because the game keeps level 60 as its permanent level cap. Instead of eventually replacing the Classic dungeon ecosystem with another expansion, Blizzard can continue adding new instances and activities to the existing world.
Dungeon Loot and Progression in WoW Forever
The new dungeons are part of a wider itemization update coming with Forever.
Current information indicates that dungeon loot tables have been redesigned, with dungeon drops receiving updated itemization rather than simply reproducing the original Classic rewards. Dungeon drops are also expected to have at least Rare quality under the updated loot system.
Another notable change is related to transmog. Certain Bind-on-Pickup dungeon drops can unlock their appearance for eligible members of the group rather than making the appearance exclusive to the player who originally obtained the item. This makes dungeon runs more interesting for players who care about collecting appearances as well as improving their equipment.
Exact loot tables, boss mechanics, drop rates, and final item statistics can still change during Beta, so those details should be verified again once the live game data becomes available.
Are the New Dungeons Available at Launch?
Yes. The nine new dungeons are part of the launch content for WoW Forever.
The game is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026, with the Beta beginning on September 17. The new dungeons are part of the initial 1–60 PvE experience, while the first new raid content is scheduled for a later release.
The first raid release is scheduled for December 9, 2026, and includes Hyjal Summit, Barrow Deeps, and the return of Onyxia's Lair. These are separate from the nine new launch dungeons.
More Dungeons Are Planned After Launch
The nine launch dungeons are not necessarily the end of the Forever dungeon roadmap.
Current information indicates that additional dungeons are planned as part of future content updates. Warcraft Tavern reports two additional dungeons planned for the spring update and another two associated with the summer update. These would expand the dungeon roster beyond the nine available at launch.
Because these future instances are not part of the initial launch roster, their final names, level ranges, mechanics, and release dates should be treated as subject to change until Blizzard publishes the relevant details.

Final Thoughts
The nine new WoW Forever dungeons significantly expand the Classic-style dungeon journey without changing the level cap.
From the Hall of Thanes at level 13 to Shaper's Terrace at level 58–60, the new instances are distributed throughout the entire leveling experience. Players will visit familiar regions such as Ironforge, the Wetlands, Stranglethorn Vale, and Un'Goro while also exploring new areas including Riverglades and previously inaccessible locations such as Alcaz Island and the Furbolg territory surrounding Blackmaw Hold.
The corrected level brackets also make the progression clearer. Krol'dok Stronghold belongs at levels 40–45, Alcaz Prison at 48–53, Blackmaw Hold at 55–60, and Shaper's Terrace at 58–60.
Combined with the original Classic dungeon roster, updated loot, new transmog interactions, more than 1,000 additional quests, and the wider Forever world expansion, these instances give players substantially more group content to experience on the road to level 60.
As WoW Forever progresses through Beta, additional boss mechanics, loot tables, quest requirements, dungeon entrances, and encounter details can be added to this guide once they are confirmed in the live game data.
