WoW: Forever Guide: New Features, Dungeons & Classic Gameplay
WoW: Forever Explained: What's New, What's Different, and What Remains Classic
A New Chapter for Classic World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft: Forever takes the foundation of the original Classic experience and builds something new around it. Rather than moving players through another traditional expansion with increasingly higher levels, Blizzard is expanding the existing Azeroth experience while keeping the maximum character level at 60.
The idea is to preserve what made original World of Warcraft enjoyable while introducing additional content, gameplay improvements, character options, and progression systems. Players can explore familiar continents, discover new areas, complete additional quests, and experience redesigned class mechanics without leaving the level 1-60 progression structure behind.
This approach makes WoW: Forever interesting for both longtime Classic veterans and players who have spent years in modern WoW. Some systems will immediately feel familiar, while others introduce entirely new ways to approach character development and exploration.

Classic Gameplay Meets Modern Conveniences
One of the biggest differences players will notice when entering WoW: Forever is the ability to choose how much of the modern interface experience they want.
Blizzard has introduced two initial experience presets called Classic and Enhanced. These presets determine the default interface, visual presentation, and convenience features, but they do not change the underlying gameplay ruleset.
The Enhanced preset is designed for players who prefer a more modern interface. It includes helpful quest guidance, marked objective areas, a combined inventory window, character transmog, modern movement keybindings, and high-definition character models. These improvements make navigating the world and managing everyday activities considerably more convenient.
The Classic preset takes a different approach. It begins with the familiar original character models, traditional interface layout, and classic camera controls. Quest guidance, the combined inventory, and transmog are disabled by default, allowing players to experience Azeroth with a presentation closer to the original game.
Importantly, neither option locks players into a particular interface. Individual settings can be adjusted, so you can combine elements from both experiences.
There are also additional interface tools for players who want more information during combat. Advanced settings provide access to features such as the Cooldown Manager and Damage Meter, helping players monitor their performance and manage important abilities.
Controller support is another addition. Players can use a gamepad to navigate menus, select enemies and allies, cast abilities, collect loot, and participate in group activities. The feature is currently in beta, and a keyboard is still required for certain tasks, including chatting.
Azeroth Expands Without Increasing the Level Cap
WoW: Forever continues to use the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor as its main leveling environment. However, the world is no longer limited to the original collection of zones and quests.
Players can progress from level 1 to level 60 while discovering new locations, expanded questlines, additional story content, and redesigned adventures. Instead of raising the level cap with each major content update, the game has room to grow through additional activities and experiences within the existing progression system.
One of the most significant additions is a collection of nine new five-player dungeons. These instances cover a broad range of levels, from level 13 all the way to level 60, giving players more opportunities to participate in group content throughout their journey.
This is particularly important for players who enjoy dungeon progression. Additional instances create more variety while leveling and provide new encounters to experience once characters reach the maximum level.
The Skyborne are another major addition to Azeroth. This new playable race has its own starting experience on Zephras Isle and offers two distinct faction-aligned choices. Horde players can choose the Windshaper Skyborne, while Alliance players can play as the High Order Skyborne.
Their introduction adds another layer to character creation and gives players a completely different starting journey compared to the traditional races.

Familiar Classes With Different Abilities and Playstyles
Although WoW: Forever retains many recognizable class identities, players should not assume that their modern WoW builds will translate directly into this version of the game.
Classes have received adjustments to their abilities and talent systems, with the original World of Warcraft design serving as the foundation. These changes create different combat priorities and give players new reasons to experiment with familiar characters.
Hunters are a good example of how these changes affect gameplay. Traps can once again become an important part of combat, while pets benefit from equipment scaling and unique abilities depending on their family. This makes pet selection and character equipment more meaningful when developing a Hunter.
There are also several new race and class combinations that were not available in the original lineup. Players can create Undead Paladins, Dwarf Shamans, Gnome Priests, Human Hunters, Orc Mages, and Troll Warlocks.
Racial abilities have also received adjustments, making race selection more relevant when considering character builds and gameplay preferences.
For players who enjoy experimenting with different classes, these changes create opportunities to revisit familiar archetypes from a completely different perspective. Even experienced Classic players may need time to understand the updated abilities, talent interactions, and optimal character setups.
The Legacy System: Progress Beyond Level 60
One of the most interesting additions to WoW: Forever is the Legacy System, which introduces account-wide progression and gives players additional goals beyond traditional character leveling.
The system revolves around completing challenges, earning Legacy Points, unlocking character-specific perks, and obtaining cosmetic rewards. Rather than focusing exclusively on equipment and character levels, Legacy progression provides another way to develop your overall account.
Players can distribute their Legacy Points across three main categories: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness. Each category supports a different approach to progression, allowing players to invest in the activities they enjoy most.
At launch, characters can spend up to 16 Legacy Points. This limit can be reached on a single character, meaning you do not need to create multiple alternate characters just to unlock the initial spending cap.
This is an important distinction for players who prefer focusing on one main character. You can continue developing your favorite class while still benefiting from the additional progression offered by the system.
The Legacy System also gives players more reasons to revisit older content, explore different activities, and work toward objectives that extend beyond reaching level 60.
Camping and Outdoor Activities
Exploration is another part of WoW: Forever that receives additional attention through the Camping system.
Players can establish campsites throughout the world, creating opportunities to interact with other adventurers and use profession-related features. Camping also introduces a resting mechanic that allows characters to receive campsite buffs after spending time around a campfire.
These locations provide an additional reason to spend time in the open world instead of treating every journey as a race toward the next dungeon or quest objective.
However, choosing a resting location still matters. Azeroth remains a dangerous place, and taking a break does not remove the threats surrounding your character.
Choosing Your Ruleset Before Starting
WoW: Forever does not follow the traditional realm-selection structure players are accustomed to from older versions of World of Warcraft.
Instead, players choose between different rulesets that determine the type of environment they want to experience. The available options include Normal, PvP, Roleplay-PvP, and Roleplay. Hardcore is planned to arrive shortly after launch.
Although this system removes the need to select from a traditional list of individual realms, there is still an important decision to make before creating your character.
Players who want to adventure together must choose the same ruleset and faction. Grouping, guild membership, dungeon runs, and raids are restricted to characters sharing both choices.
This means friends should coordinate their character creation before starting their journey. PvP rulesets also restrict players to a single faction, making the initial faction decision particularly important.
For anyone planning to play with an established group, deciding on these details early can prevent unnecessary complications later.
Can You Play Modern WoW and WoW: Forever?
Players do not necessarily have to choose between the modern version of World of Warcraft and WoW: Forever.
An active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time provides access to both experiences. This means players can continue enjoying their existing characters and activities in modern WoW while also exploring the new Classic-inspired environment.
The two experiences offer different approaches to progression, combat, and exploration, making it possible to switch depending on what you feel like playing.
For veterans who have spent years in Azeroth, WoW: Forever offers an opportunity to rediscover familiar locations and class identities. For newer players, it provides a different introduction to World of Warcraft without requiring them to abandon the modern game entirely.
Is WoW: Forever Worth Playing?
WoW: Forever is not simply a recreation of the original Classic experience. Its expanded zones, additional dungeons, redesigned class mechanics, new race combinations, and account-wide Legacy progression give players several new reasons to explore Azeroth.
At the same time, the level 60 cap and familiar world structure preserve the foundation that made Classic progression appealing in the first place.
Players who enjoy gradual character development, dungeon progression, open-world exploration, and experimenting with different builds should find plenty of activities to pursue.
The biggest change is the direction of long-term progression. Instead of constantly moving toward higher levels and new expansions, WoW: Forever creates additional goals within the existing level 1-60 environment.
Whether you are returning after years away or experiencing Classic-style gameplay for the first time, there is a lot to discover. Preparing your character, understanding the updated class systems, and choosing the right activities will make a significant difference as you progress through the world.
