WoW Forever New Zones Guide: Riverglades, Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas & Zephras Isle
World of Warcraft: Forever expands the Classic Azeroth experience with new regions, new questlines, and additional paths through the level 1–60 journey. Rather than replacing the original world with a completely separate expansion continent, Forever builds on the existing Classic map by opening previously inaccessible areas, expanding unfinished stories, and adding new places to explore.
Four major new regions have been confirmed for WoW Forever: Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Shen'dralas, and Mount Hyjal. Together, they add content across different stages of progression, from the level 1–12 Skyborne starting experience to high-level adventures surrounding Mount Hyjal.
The expansion of the world is also connected to the larger Forever questing experience. Blizzard has confirmed more than 1,000 new quests across the level 1–60 journey, meaning the new zones are not simply isolated endgame areas. They are part of a broader effort to give players additional routes and reasons to explore Azeroth while leveling.
WoW Forever New Zones at a Glance
Zone | Main Level Range | Main Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Zephras Isle | 1–12 | Starting zone for the Skyborne |
Riverglades | Mid-30s to mid-40s | Major new mid-level leveling region |
Shen'dralas | Not officially specified | New story and exploration between Mulgore and Desolace |
Mount Hyjal | High-level / endgame | New quests, exploration and content following Archimonde's defeat |
These four areas serve different roles in the Forever experience. Zephras Isle gives the Skyborne race its own opening adventure, Riverglades provides a substantial alternative leveling route, Shen'dralas expands an unexplored part of Kalimdor, and Mount Hyjal opens one of the most important unfinished areas from the original Warcraft setting.

Zephras Isle
Zephras Isle is the dedicated starting area for the new Skyborne race. Every Skyborne character begins their journey here, with the zone designed to take characters through approximately levels 1–12 before they continue into the wider Azeroth leveling experience.
The island is closely connected to the history of the Skyborne, also known as the Shen'dorei. Their story involves Highborne descendants who became separated from the rest of Azeroth and established a new home on Zephras Isle. The island itself has been raised into the elemental plane of Skywall through a pact with wind spirits.
Skyborne characters choose their faction when creating their character. They can join the Alliance-aligned High Order or the Horde-aligned Windshapers. Both versions can play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid, while the faction choice provides access to an additional class: Mage for the High Order and Shaman for the Windshapers.
The starting zone also gives Skyborne characters their own introduction to the race's story before they enter the broader Forever world.
Skyborne Druids receive additional visual customization as well. Their Bear, Cat, Travel, and Moonkin forms use a distinctive sky-blue appearance that is unique to the race.
Zephras Isle and the Leveling Experience
Zephras Isle is different from the other new Forever zones because it is specifically designed as a racial starting area. Players do not need to travel there later to access its main leveling content because Skyborne characters begin their journey there.
The zone therefore represents the first stage of the Skyborne progression before characters move into the larger 1–60 world.
Blizzard has not published a complete quest-by-quest breakdown or an exact quest count for Zephras Isle, so those details should not be treated as finalized until more information becomes available.
Riverglades
Riverglades is one of the largest additions to the WoW Forever leveling experience. It is a new frontier region designed around the middle portion of the journey to level 60, covering much of the mid-30s through mid-40s.
The zone is built around rivers, grasslands, roads, trade routes, settlements, and communities trying to establish themselves in a difficult frontier. Instead of focusing exclusively on a single massive threat, Riverglades is designed around the people, factions, conflicts, and stories developing inside the region.
Earlier Blizzard information confirmed more than 150 quests in Riverglades, while newer information has described the region as containing nearly 200 quests for Horde and Alliance players. Because the information has been presented at different stages of the pre-launch reveal, it is safest to describe Riverglades as having 150+ quests, with newer material indicating nearly 200.
Riverglades Level Range
Riverglades is intended primarily for characters in the mid-30s through mid-40s. The exact level at which players should enter and leave the zone can depend on their quest choices and leveling route, but it represents a substantial portion of the middle section of the 1–60 progression.
This makes Riverglades particularly important for players who want alternatives to the traditional Classic leveling routes. Instead of repeatedly following the same path through the original zones, Forever characters will have additional questing content available.
Riverglades Location and Travel
Riverglades occupies a previously inaccessible portion of the Eastern Kingdoms. The region connects to areas around Burning Steppes, Redridge Mountains, Swamp of Sorrows, and the Badlands.
The zone is also described as being roughly comparable in size to Stranglethorn Vale, making it a substantial region rather than a small quest hub.
Players can reach Riverglades through new travel routes, including a Steamwheedle Cartel boat connection from Tanaris. A route connected to the Redridge area also provides access from the Eastern Kingdoms.
Powderfuse Port
One of the notable locations in Riverglades is Powderfuse Port, a Goblin settlement that provides an important point of interest in the region.
The Goblin presence reflects one of the zone's broader themes: trade, transportation, and frontier development. The settlement also helps connect Riverglades to the wider network of travel routes being added to Forever.
Exact details such as the final flight-path configuration, vendors, and every available quest hub may still change as the Beta progresses.
Factions and Groups in Riverglades
Riverglades is populated by several different groups, giving the zone a more complicated political and social environment than a simple questing area.
Known groups include the Powderfuse Goblins, Twilight's Hammer, Brotherhood of the Horse, gnolls, and ogres. Other inhabitants also appear throughout the region, with the area designed around competing communities and old conflicts.
The Brotherhood of the Horse is particularly notable because it connects Riverglades to older Warcraft history, while Twilight's Hammer provides another connection to the larger conflicts surrounding Azeroth.
Riverglades is therefore intended to feel like a living frontier rather than simply another collection of quest objectives.
Riverglades and Leveling Routes
For players leveling characters in WoW Forever, Riverglades could become one of the most important alternative routes through the middle levels.
Its large number of quests means players have substantially more content available than in the original Classic progression. The combination of quest density, new settlements, travel routes, dungeon content, and faction-related objectives also gives players more ways to structure their journey toward level 60.
This is particularly relevant for players leveling multiple characters. Forever's expanded world means that different characters can follow different combinations of zones rather than repeating exactly the same route every time.
Shen'dralas
Shen'dralas is another major new area introduced as part of the Forever world expansion.
The zone is located between Mulgore and Desolace, adding a new area to a part of Kalimdor that previously contained unexplored space. Its story is connected to the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas, Dire Maul, and the surrounding centaur tribes.
Rather than introducing a completely disconnected setting, Shen'dralas continues Blizzard's approach of taking unfinished or underdeveloped parts of Classic Azeroth and building new stories around them.
This makes the zone particularly interesting for players familiar with Classic lore. Existing locations and groups receive additional context while previously inaccessible territory becomes part of the playable world.
Shen'dralas and Dire Maul
The Shen'dralar have a long-established connection to Eldre'Thalas, better known through the Dire Maul dungeon complex.
Forever expands that part of the story rather than leaving it isolated from the rest of the world. The new region provides additional context for the Shen'dralar and their surrounding territories while creating another route through Kalimdor.
The exact level range, complete quest progression, faction rewards, and final zone structure have not all been published, so these details should be updated as Blizzard provides additional information during the Beta.
Mount Hyjal
Mount Hyjal is one of the most significant new areas coming to WoW Forever.
The zone explores what happens after Archimonde's defeat and focuses on the recovery and future of Mount Hyjal. Players will be able to explore the region, complete new quests, encounter new groups, and participate in content connected to the wider story of the area.
Mount Hyjal also includes Darkwhisper Gorge, finally opening an area that has historically been inaccessible in the original Classic world.
The zone is therefore more than another leveling location. It represents the continuation of a major Warcraft storyline and provides a bridge between open-world content and the new high-level PvE progression associated with Hyjal.
Darkwhisper Gorge
Darkwhisper Gorge becomes part of the Mount Hyjal region in Forever.
The area is located near the southern approach to Mount Hyjal and has historically been a blocked-off section of the Classic world. Forever uses it as part of the expanded route into the new region.
The Gorge is also connected to the new endgame content surrounding Mount Hyjal, making it an important location for players progressing through the higher levels.
Mount Hyjal and Hyjal Summit
Mount Hyjal is directly connected to the new Hyjal Summit raid.
Hyjal Summit is planned as a 20-player raid and forms part of the first post-launch raid content for WoW Forever. The raid is not available on the first day of launch. The first raid release is scheduled for December 9, 2026, when Hyjal Summit arrives alongside Barrow Deeps and the returning Onyxia's Lair.
This gives Mount Hyjal an important role beyond ordinary questing. Players will be able to experience the region as open-world content before progressing into its associated group content.
More Than 1,000 New Quests Across Azeroth
The four new zones are only part of the larger world expansion.
Blizzard has confirmed more than 1,000 new quests throughout the level 1–60 experience. These quests are distributed across the wider world rather than being concentrated entirely in the four newly introduced regions.
That distinction is important. WoW Forever does not simply add four zones and leave the rest of Classic untouched. Existing regions are also being expanded, with additional stories and objectives appearing throughout Azeroth.
Riverglades currently has the clearest published quest count, while individual totals for Zephras Isle, Shen'dralas, and Mount Hyjal have not been fully published.
Expanded Classic Zones
WoW Forever also changes parts of the existing world.
Some areas that were previously inaccessible or only partially developed can now be explored, while familiar locations receive additional quests, stories, and visual improvements.
One example is Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains, which receives an expanded version and is connected to the new City of Dalaran dungeon.
This approach allows Forever to preserve the geography and identity of Classic Azeroth while giving players reasons to revisit locations they already know.
A New Way to Level From 1 to 60
The biggest effect of these zones will likely be felt during leveling.
Classic WoW has always had recognizable leveling routes, and experienced players often follow highly optimized paths through the same zones. WoW Forever changes that formula by introducing new regions and more than 1,000 additional quests.
Riverglades provides a major mid-level alternative, Zephras Isle gives Skyborne players a completely new opening, Shen'dralas expands Kalimdor, and Mount Hyjal adds high-level world content.
This means leveling in Forever is not simply a repeat of the original Classic experience. Players can explore more of Azeroth, choose different questing routes, and experience stories that were never available in the original game.
WoW Forever Zones and the Level 60 Cap
WoW Forever keeps the maximum character level at 60.
The purpose of the new zones is therefore not to raise the level cap. Instead, Blizzard is expanding what players can do within the existing 1–60 framework and adding more content around level 60.
This is one of the fundamental differences between Forever and a traditional expansion model. Rather than eventually moving characters beyond level 60 into another expansion, Forever is designed to keep expanding the same version of Azeroth while keeping the level cap in place.
New Zones, Dungeons and Endgame Content
The expanded world is also connected to new dungeon and raid content.
WoW Forever launches with nine new dungeons covering different portions of the leveling experience. The currently published dungeon list ranges from Hall of Thanes for low-level characters through Shaper's Terrace for level 58–60 players.
Dungeon | Published Level Range |
|---|---|
Hall of Thanes | 13–18 |
Ruins of Lordaeron | 15–20 |
Excavation Site | 24–29 |
City of Dalaran | 28–33 |
The Drowned City | 35–40 |
Krol'Dok Stronghold | 40–55 |
Alcaz Island Prison | 48–53 |
Blackmaw Hold | 55–60 |
Shaper's Terrace | 58–60 |
These dungeons complement the new zones by giving players additional group activities throughout the leveling process rather than concentrating all new PvE content at level 60.
New Zones and the Forever World Design
The design philosophy behind these regions is one of the most important parts of WoW Forever.
Instead of creating a completely separate continent, Blizzard is expanding the world that Classic players already know. Forgotten areas become accessible, unfinished stories receive new chapters, and familiar locations can receive additional content.
Riverglades is a good example. It turns previously inaccessible territory into a large mid-level zone with its own communities, conflicts, transportation routes, and quests.
Mount Hyjal takes a similar approach from the opposite end of the progression system. It uses a famous Warcraft location and builds a new post-Archimonde story around it.
Shen'dralas expands an existing part of Kalimdor's lore, while Zephras Isle provides the Skyborne with a completely new introduction.
Together, these zones make the world feel larger without abandoning the geography and identity that define Classic Azeroth.

Final Thoughts
The new zones are one of the biggest reasons WoW Forever feels different from the original Classic experience.
Zephras Isle gives the Skyborne a completely new beginning, Riverglades adds a large mid-level region with more than 150 quests and newer information pointing toward nearly 200, Shen'dralas expands an unexplored part of Kalimdor, and Mount Hyjal finally opens one of Warcraft's most recognizable unfinished areas.
At the same time, Blizzard is adding more than 1,000 quests throughout the level 1–60 journey, new dungeons, new raid content, expanded existing zones, and additional ways to progress without increasing the level cap.
For players who already know the original Classic leveling routes by heart, these additions should provide substantially more room to explore. For new players, they create more choices about how to reach level 60 and what parts of Azeroth to experience along the way.
WoW Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026, with the Beta running beforehand. As the Beta develops and Blizzard publishes more information, exact quest chains, rewards, travel routes, faction details, and zone mechanics can be added to this guide.
