WoW Forever Travel Guide: Routes, Ships, Flight Paths and Transportation

Travel is one of the most important parts of World of Warcraft: Forever, especially during the journey from level 1 to 60. Azeroth is a large world, and getting from one quest hub to another can take a significant amount of time if you do not know which flight paths, ships, zeppelins, and roads to use. A route that looks simple on the map can involve a long detour, while the right connection between two transport hubs can save you several minutes on every trip.

WoW: Forever keeps the familiar Classic approach to world travel, but it also adds new connections that change how players move between continents and reach previously inaccessible areas. Stormwind now has a direct ship connection to Auberdine, the route between Menethil Harbor, Southshore, and Auberdine creates another useful connection for Alliance characters, and a new ship links Tanaris with Riverglades. Skyborne characters also have their own transportation network originating on Zephras Isle.

This guide explains the main travel systems in WoW: Forever, the routes worth unlocking early, how to move between starting zones, and how to reach important new areas and dungeons. The goal is to help you spend less time travelling across Azeroth and more time questing, exploring, gathering materials, and progressing your character.

WoW Forever Travel at a Glance

Travel system

Best use

Flight paths

Moving quickly between discovered towns and quest hubs

Ships and boats

Crossing bodies of water and travelling between continents

Zeppelins

Long-distance travel between major Horde hubs

Skyboats

Connecting Zephras Isle with the wider world

Deeprun Tram

Travelling directly between Stormwind and Ironforge

Mage portals and teleports

Reducing travel time when the appropriate Mage or spell is available

Hearthstone

Returning to a selected inn or questing hub

Ground travel

Reaching nearby zones, dungeon entrances, and places without convenient transport

WoW: Forever does not use flying mounts for open-world travel. Ground mounts remain useful, but learning the transport network is just as important as increasing your riding speed. A combination of flight paths and the right ship or zeppelin connection is often faster than travelling on the ground for the entire journey.

Because the game is still in its beta period, some route details and access requirements may change before launch. Use the routes below as a practical guide, then confirm any uncertain connections in-game.

The New WoW Forever Travel Routes

The most important transportation changes are the connections that make long journeys across Azeroth less complicated. Instead of relying entirely on the routes remembered from original Classic, players can use several new ship connections and the Skyborne travel network.

The first major change is the direct connection between Stormwind Harbor and Auberdine. This makes travelling between the Eastern Kingdoms and Darkshore much easier for Alliance characters. It also improves access to Teldrassil because Auberdine connects to Rut'theran Village, which provides the familiar route toward Darnassus.

Another important addition is the ship route from Menethil Harbor through Southshore to Auberdine. This gives players a convenient way to travel between the Wetlands, Hillsbrad Foothills, and Darkshore without relying entirely on long ground journeys. Southshore becomes particularly useful for Alliance characters heading toward the northern Eastern Kingdoms.

The third major connection links Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris with Powderfuse Port in Riverglades. This route is useful for both factions and creates a practical way to reach one of the major new zones introduced in WoW: Forever.

Skyborne characters have an additional network starting at Valanaar on Zephras Isle. The available routes connect the island with Dalaran and northwestern Mulgore, allowing characters to join the wider travel network after completing their starting experience.

Route

Main benefit

Stormwind Harbor ↔ Auberdine

Faster travel between Stormwind and Darkshore

Menethil Harbor → Southshore → Auberdine

Connects the Wetlands, Hillsbrad Foothills, and Darkshore

Steamwheedle Port ↔ Powderfuse Port

Provides sea access to Riverglades from Tanaris

Valanaar → Dalaran

Connects the Skyborne starting area with a major northern hub

Valanaar → northwestern Mulgore

Gives Horde-aligned Skyborne characters a convenient route into Kalimdor

These routes are particularly valuable while leveling because they reduce unnecessary running between zones. For more information about the new regions and their level ranges, read our WoW Forever New Zones Guide.

How Flight Paths Work in WoW Forever

Flight paths are one of the most reliable ways to reduce travel time in Azeroth. Once you discover a Flight Master and unlock a route, you can use it again whenever you need to return to that area. The catch is that you cannot rely on a flight path you have never visited, which makes unlocking nearby transport points important while leveling.

Whenever a quest takes you through a town with a Flight Master, take a moment to discover the route even when you do not need it immediately. A short detour now can save a much longer journey later, especially when travelling to zones you revisit frequently.

This is particularly useful in areas such as Winterspring, Silithus, and Riverglades, where getting to the correct entrance or quest hub can otherwise involve a lengthy journey. Flight paths should be treated as part of your leveling route rather than an optional activity to complete after reaching level 60.

You do not need to explore the entire world just to collect every available flight path. Focus on the ones near your current quests, the zones you expect to visit next, and the major cities you are likely to revisit for training, repairs, professions, or trading.

If you are planning your route from the beginning, our WoW Forever 1-60 Leveling Guide explains how to combine questing, dungeons, and zone progression without wasting too much time between objectives.

WoW Forever Ship Routes

Ships connect areas that would otherwise require long journeys around coastlines or across dangerous territory. They are particularly useful for characters who have not yet developed a network of flight paths, and some of the new connections are important enough to change how you plan your route through Azeroth.

The Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine connection is especially useful for Alliance players. From Stormwind, you can reach Darkshore directly and continue toward Teldrassil through Rut'theran Village. In the opposite direction, characters travelling from Teldrassil can reach Stormwind without following the longer route familiar from original Classic.

Menethil Harbor is another important destination because it connects the Wetlands with Theramore and the newer route through Southshore toward Auberdine. This makes it a useful hub for characters moving between central and northern parts of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

The neutral route between Ratchet and Booty Bay remains valuable for both factions. It provides a practical connection between the southern Barrens and Stranglethorn Vale, allowing characters to cross between the continents without depending on an extensive Flight Path network.

Auberdine is particularly useful for Alliance characters because several important connections meet in the same area. If your character is travelling between Teldrassil, Darkshore, and the Eastern Kingdoms, learning how to use Auberdine efficiently can eliminate several unnecessary detours.

WoW Forever Zeppelin Routes

Zeppelins remain the main long-distance transportation system for the Horde. The core network connects Orgrimmar, Undercity, and Grom'gol, covering much of the distance between Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms.

Orgrimmar is usually the most important starting point for Horde travel. From there, you can reach Undercity for northern Eastern Kingdoms content or Grom'gol for Stranglethorn Vale and nearby southern zones. Undercity also connects directly with Grom'gol, making it possible to move between the north and south of the Eastern Kingdoms without returning to Orgrimmar first.

Grom'gol is particularly valuable during the middle stages of leveling. If your quests take you through Stranglethorn Vale, use the local zeppelin connection instead of travelling back across the continent on foot.

Horde players should also remember that the neutral Ratchet to Booty Bay ship offers another option for crossing between continents. Neutral transport connections can be useful when the normal faction network does not take you close enough to your destination.

Skyborne Travel: How to Leave Zephras Isle

Zephras Isle is the starting area for the Skyborne race in WoW: Forever. When you are ready to leave the island, travel to Valanaar and use one of its available skyboat connections.

The first route leads toward Dalaran, while the other connects to northwestern Mulgore near Thunder Bluff. These connections allow Skyborne characters to join the larger transportation network rather than requiring a long journey through the world immediately after finishing the starting experience.

Your faction choice influences which destination makes the most sense. Alliance-aligned characters can use the route toward Dalaran before continuing through the northern travel network, while Horde-aligned characters can use the connection toward Mulgore and proceed toward the usual Horde hubs.

After arriving, discover nearby flight paths and learn the most convenient connections to the zones you expect to level in next. The same principle applies to other races: reaching a new continent is only the first step, and unlocking the return journey can save time throughout the leveling process.

For a closer look at the Skyborne starting experience and the other regions added to Forever, see our WoW Forever New Zones Guide.

The Deeprun Tram, Mage Portals, and Hearthstone

Not every useful travel route involves a ship or a long-distance flight. Several smaller transportation options can save a considerable amount of time if you use them at the right moment.

The Deeprun Tram connects Stormwind and Ironforge, providing Alliance characters with a direct route between the two cities. It is particularly useful for Dwarves and Gnomes travelling from Dun Morogh, but Humans can also use the connection when they need to reach Ironforge. It removes the need to cross Loch Modan and the Wetlands simply to move between the two capitals.

Mage portals and teleports can be even more convenient when the appropriate spell is available. A Mage can provide access to major cities, while personal teleports offer class-specific shortcuts. These options depend on having the relevant spell or another player who can help, so it is still worth knowing the normal transportation routes.

Your Hearthstone is another important part of travel planning. Set it at an inn close to the content you currently expect to complete. Keeping it in a distant capital while questing in another region can add unnecessary travel every time you need to return.

Druids have additional options, including Teleport: Moonglade. This can reduce the time required to reach Moonglade compared with following the normal ground route through Timbermaw Hold.

The best approach is to combine these systems. Use a Hearthstone to return to your current hub, take a flight path to a nearby zone, and use a ship or zeppelin when travelling across the continent. No single option is always fastest, so the destination and your unlocked routes should determine the choice.

The Most Important WoW Forever Travel Hubs

Travel hubs are locations where several transportation options meet. Learning a few key hubs is usually more useful than trying to memorise every road in Azeroth, because these locations let you connect different routes with less planning.

Alliance Travel Hubs

Stormwind is a major city and an important ship hub. The city has the Deeprun Tram connection to Ironforge and the new ship route toward Auberdine. It is a convenient base for characters who regularly travel between the two continents.

Auberdine is one of the most valuable Alliance transport points during early and middle leveling. From there, you can travel toward Stormwind, Menethil Harbor, Southshore, and Rut'theran Village. Night Elf characters in particular should learn this network early because it connects their starting region with the wider world.

Menethil Harbor is useful for travel between the Wetlands and other parts of Azeroth, while Southshore now has additional value as a stop on the ship route to Auberdine. Ironforge remains important for its flight connections, access to the Deeprun Tram, trainers, and the new Hall of Thanes dungeon beneath the city.

Horde Travel Hubs

Orgrimmar is the main Horde hub for zeppelin travel and access to Kalimdor flight paths. Most Horde characters will return to the city repeatedly for training, professions, trading, and long-distance transportation.

Undercity is important for northern Eastern Kingdoms travel and its zeppelin links to Orgrimmar and Grom'gol. Grom'gol is particularly useful for Stranglethorn Vale and nearby zones, while Thunder Bluff provides access to central Kalimdor and sits relatively close to the new Skyborne route in northwestern Mulgore.

Neutral Travel Hubs

Ratchet connects the Barrens to Booty Bay and remains an important neutral route between the two continents. Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris and Powderfuse Port in Riverglades are also worth learning because their new ship connection provides a practical route into the expanded world.

Valanaar serves a similar purpose for Skyborne characters. Learn where these neutral and race-specific hubs are located, and you will have more options when your faction's standard transport network does not take you directly to a quest or dungeon.

How to Travel Between Starting Zones

Moving between starting zones is useful when you want to group with friends, visit another capital, train specific abilities, or pursue a different set of quests. The new ship connections make some of these journeys much simpler than they were in original Classic.

For Night Elf characters, Auberdine is the key connection to remember. For Humans, Dwarves, and Gnomes travelling between the main Eastern Kingdoms cities, the Deeprun Tram is often the most convenient option.

Horde Starting Zone Routes

Mulgore or Thunder Bluff

Orgrimmar

Travel through the Barrens, or use a discovered flight path

Tirisfal Glades or Undercity

Thunder Bluff

Zeppelin to Orgrimmar, then continue through Kalimdor

The trip to Thunder Bluff generally requires more ground travel than the direct connections between Orgrimmar and Undercity. If you expect to travel between the two regions more than once, unlock the relevant flight paths as you progress.

Skyborne Starting Zone Routes

Skyborne characters start on Zephras Isle and leave through Valanaar. The available transport options lead toward Dalaran or northwestern Mulgore, after which you can use the normal Alliance or Horde network according to your faction.

The important thing is to learn the next connection before setting out. Travelling to a large city does not automatically mean you have unlocked the flight paths that will be useful for your next questing area.

How to Reach Important WoW Forever Zones

Some zones are straightforward to enter, while others require a particular road, mountain pass, tunnel, or transport connection. Knowing the right approach can save time and prevent you from following a route that ends at a blocked entrance.

Destination

Main approach

Travel advice

Moonglade

Timbermaw Hold or Druid class travel

Pay attention to the tunnel branches

Winterspring

Timbermaw Hold from northern Felwood

Unlock nearby flight paths during your visit

Shen'dralas

Southern Desolace through the Valley of Bones

Plan the ground route before entering the region

Silithus

Northwestern Un'Goro Crater

Connect your route through southern Kalimdor

The Hinterlands

Mountain pass from Hillsbrad Foothills

Southshore is a useful approach for Alliance characters

Riverglades

Road from Redridge or ship from Tanaris

Choose the route closest to your current location

Searing Gorge

Badlands pass or Blackrock Mountain

Check the approach before making a long detour

Burning Steppes

Redridge or Blackrock Mountain

Use nearby connections where available

Moonglade and Winterspring share an important approach through Timbermaw Hold. The tunnel system has different branches, so take care to follow the correct direction rather than assuming every exit leads to the same region. Druids have an additional travel option for Moonglade that can bypass the normal route.

Shen'dralas is a special case because its known approach runs through southern Desolace and the Valley of Bones. Riverglades is more flexible, with access from the Redridge area and the ship connection between Steamwheedle Port and Powderfuse Port. The best route depends on whether you are already questing in the Eastern Kingdoms or travelling from Tanaris.

These routes are particularly relevant to leveling because Forever adds new areas to the existing world instead of moving every progression activity onto a separate continent. You will often get better results by learning how a zone connects to its neighbours than by memorising a list of isolated destinations.

How to Reach the New WoW Forever Dungeons

WoW: Forever adds nine new dungeons throughout the level 1 to 60 experience. Their locations range from areas beneath familiar cities to islands, coastal ruins, and regions that were previously inaccessible. Several are close to existing transportation hubs, while others require more planning.

Dungeon

Current level range

Location and access

Hall of Thanes

13-18

Beneath Ironforge, accessed through the city

Ruins of Lordaeron

15-20

Ruins above Undercity in Tirisfal Glades

Excavation Site

24-29

Wetlands, above Whelgar's Excavation Site

City of Dalaran

28-33

Alterac Mountains, with faction-specific entrances

The Drowned City

35-40

Offshore ruins near Stranglethorn Vale

Krol'dok Stronghold

40-45

Riverglades

Alcaz Prison

48-53

Alcaz Island, northeast of Dustwallow Marsh

Blackmaw Hold

55-60

Northern Azshara, behind the Furbolg Gates

Shaper's Terrace

58-60

Un'Goro Crater

These level ranges reflect current game information and should be checked against the live version as the beta progresses. For a closer look at each instance and its role in character progression, read our WoW Forever Dungeons Guide.

Hall of Thanes

Hall of Thanes is located beneath Ironforge. Alliance players can access it through the High Seat area, then follow the passage toward Old Ironforge and the instance entrance. Horde characters have a longer journey because they must travel through contested territory to reach the city.

If your group is planning to run this dungeon, coordinate the meeting point before travelling. Ironforge is not equally convenient for both factions, and a route that works well for an Alliance group may require considerably more preparation for Horde players.

Ruins of Lordaeron

The Ruins of Lordaeron are located above Undercity in Tirisfal Glades, making the dungeon comparatively accessible for Horde characters. Alliance players need to plan a longer journey through the northern Eastern Kingdoms. The ship route through Auberdine and Southshore can help with part of the trip, although the final approach still requires additional travel.

Excavation Site

Excavation Site is located in the Wetlands above Whelgar's Excavation Site. Alliance characters can approach from Menethil Harbor or travel through Loch Modan. Horde characters generally need to approach through Tarren Mill and Arathi Highlands before entering the Wetlands from the north.

Because the entrance is connected to a new road, be sure to check your map rather than assuming it sits directly inside the older excavation area.

City of Dalaran

City of Dalaran uses different approaches depending on your faction. Alliance characters can enter through the sewer area near Cantrips & Crows, while Horde characters use an outside entrance associated with the Dalaran Sewer Key. Current route information places that entrance near coordinates 8.8, 59.6.

Since access requirements may change during testing, check the current entrance conditions before setting out. Dalaran is also a useful travel destination in its own right, so learning the surrounding routes can help with more than a single dungeon run.

The Drowned City and Krol'dok Stronghold

The Drowned City is located among offshore ruins near Stranglethorn Vale. Reaching the general area is relatively straightforward once you are in Stranglethorn, but its position off the coast means you should confirm the final approach before beginning the trip.

Krol'dok Stronghold is located in Riverglades and is easiest to reach after you have entered the zone through Redridge or Powderfuse Port. If your group is already completing quests in Riverglades, it makes sense to combine the dungeon with the rest of your progression rather than making a separate trip from another continent.

Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold, and Shaper's Terrace

Alcaz Prison is located on Alcaz Island, northeast of Dustwallow Marsh. Travel through Dustwallow and continue toward the northeastern coast before heading out to the island.

Blackmaw Hold is in northern Azshara behind the Furbolg Gates. The main challenge is reaching the northern section of the zone and finding the correct entrance.

Shaper's Terrace is in Un'Goro Crater and is intended for high-level characters. Reach the crater through Tanaris, then continue toward the dungeon area. Because these instances are designed for later stages of progression, it is worth checking the map and group plan before making the journey.

The most important rule is to prepare for the trip before your group assembles. Check the entrance, required level, and nearest travel hub. If the dungeon is far from your current location, make sure the trip fits naturally into your leveling or gearing session.

Finding Trainers and Important Services

Travel is not only about questing. You will regularly need to visit class trainers, profession trainers, weapon masters, riding trainers, banks, Auction Houses, and stablemasters. Knowing where these services are located can prevent unnecessary trips between capitals.

The major faction capitals are generally the safest starting point when you need a specific service. Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus, Orgrimmar, Undercity, and Thunder Bluff contain many of the trainers and facilities players need throughout their progression. Certain trainers and additional services are also available in newer Forever locations, including Dalaran.

If you are unsure where to find a trainer, ask a city guard for directions. The map markers are often the quickest way to identify a relevant NPC or service within a large city. Once you have found a useful trainer or hub, consider whether your Hearthstone should be set nearby based on the content you plan to complete next.

Professions are another reason to plan your routes. If you are gathering materials or working on a profession while leveling, try to combine trainer visits with nearby quests and transport unlocks. Our WoW Forever Gold Guide explains how gathering, questing, and selling unwanted materials can support your progression without turning the entire game into a repetitive farming routine.

How to Travel More Efficiently While Leveling

The fastest way to travel in WoW: Forever is usually to combine different transportation systems instead of relying on one method for every journey. Use a flight path when the destination is already unlocked, take a ship or zeppelin for a long-distance connection, and finish the journey on the ground when necessary.

Avoid crossing an entire zone for a single objective if you can group several nearby quests together. Before leaving a quest hub, check whether you have completed the surrounding objectives and whether there is a Flight Master nearby. This simple habit can reduce the number of times you need to return to the same location.

You should also think about future travel when selecting your Hearthstone location. During an extended questing session, a convenient inn can make a bigger difference than a small equipment upgrade. Change your Hearthstone when your main progression area shifts, especially if you are moving to another continent or spending more time in a new zone.

Finally, do not ignore the new Forever routes just because you already know Azeroth from Classic. The direct Stormwind to Auberdine ship, the Southshore connection, the Riverglades route, and the Skyborne skyboats all change how you can approach certain destinations. Learning them early makes the rest of the leveling journey more predictable.

For additional progression advice, our WoW Forever 1-60 Leveling Guide covers efficient zone progression, while the Gold Guide: Smart Spending While Leveling helps you prepare for riding, abilities, professions, and other important expenses.

WoW Forever Travel FAQ

What is the fastest way to travel in WoW Forever?

For most long-distance trips, a combination of unlocked flight paths and ships or zeppelins is the most convenient approach. The fastest route depends on your starting location, destination, and which connections you have already discovered.

Are there flying mounts in WoW Forever?

No. WoW: Forever does not use flying mounts for open-world travel. Flight Masters still provide transportation between discovered destinations, while ships, zeppelins, skyboats, ground mounts, and class-specific abilities help you reach other areas.

What new travel routes does WoW Forever add?

The main new connections include Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine, the Menethil Harbor to Southshore to Auberdine route, and the Steamwheedle Port to Powderfuse Port ship. Skyborne characters can also travel from Valanaar toward Dalaran or northwestern Mulgore.

How do Horde players travel between Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms?

The main Horde transportation network uses zeppelins between Orgrimmar, Undercity, and Grom'gol. The neutral Ratchet to Booty Bay ship provides another option, especially when travelling toward the southern Eastern Kingdoms.

Can Horde players use Alliance ships?

Some faction-specific routes can leave Horde characters close to enemy NPCs, so they are not always the most convenient choice. Neutral routes such as Ratchet to Booty Bay and Steamwheedle Port to Powderfuse Port are generally safer options to consider.

How do you leave Zephras Isle?

Travel to Valanaar and use one of the available skyboat connections. One route leads toward Dalaran, while the other connects to northwestern Mulgore near Thunder Bluff. From there, continue through the normal transport network for your chosen faction.

Should you unlock every Flight Path?

You do not need to travel across all of Azeroth just to unlock every Flight Master. Focus on routes close to your quests, new zones, major cities, and dungeons you expect to visit. Unlocking useful connections as you progress is much more efficient than returning later to collect them all.

What is the easiest way to reach Riverglades?

Riverglades can be reached from the Redridge side of the Eastern Kingdoms or through the Steamwheedle Port to Powderfuse Port ship connection from Tanaris. Choose whichever approach is closer to your current location and unlock nearby flight paths once you arrive.

Getting around Azeroth is still part of the WoW: Forever experience, but the new transportation network offers more options than many returning Classic players may expect. Learn the major hubs, unlock flight paths along your leveling route, and use the new ship and skyboat connections whenever they save you a long detour. With a little planning, travelling becomes a normal part of your progression instead of something that repeatedly interrupts it.
